Sitting on someone is not skill. In fact, Centro was more impressive in that regard. Both were still lucky and just like centro, hocker will never win again.
Why do you keep belittling Centro? He was a great 1500m runner, with several global medals. I don't remember a better USA 1500 runner, correct me if I'm wrong.

Just rewatched the Rio 2016 final, what a masterclass in the 1500m. Leading the race from gun to wire, responding to all attacks. What does he have to do to make some posters here satisfied? To, runaway 127m from the Olympic field?!?!?

Both Centri and Hocker were top 10 world level 1500 runners, over 2+ Olympic cycles. You could even argue top 5-6.
Their goal should be to make an Olympic final and then somehow find a way to win - which they did.
What is the alternative? To jog the final as they are not top seeded? To not have a race and give Gold to top world ranked runner?

He was so close to not even making the team. My post will ring for ages. Atleast Centri got a few mickey mouse medals, Hocker likely won’t
Even if he never wins a medal again, I will forever remember him as the guy who beat 1 3:26 guy, 2 3:27 guys and broke the OR in the process in a race of the century.

And then he got lucky at Foot Locker, and all those NCAA finals. And then he got lucky making all those World Championship finals. Recently he got lucky again qualifying for the US team for Worlds. I'm not sure if he will get lucky again in the WC Final, but there does seem to be a pattern here.

What bothers you is that they are Olympic champions, while you’ve probably never even won a HS race. The jealousy must be killing you.
