Does that do anything? The voting system always seemed pretty pointless and ineffectual to me. I've never seen the up/downvotes have any effect on what shows up in what order on this forum. At least with reddit it clerly moves content up or down, front or back, depending on the voting. Here it always has just seemed like mere FYI.

Just now at a meet in Poland, Addy Wiley ran 2:31.49 in the 1000m. According to Wikipedia this breaks the previous record of 2:31.80 set by Regina Jacobs all the way back in 1999!
10th fastest all time for world women is 2:31:11 so she is right on the edge of top 10 all time and most of the women ahead of her in the top 10 are really shady (East German, Russian, Soviet Union, Semenya).

The upvote/downvote data here is ever before the viewer, and can be manipulated, typically to influence viewpoint, including yours, whether or not you actually realize it does that. I think it absolutely can have a psychological effect. For example, look how it used here to try and sway opinion on various pro groups (Ritz and OAC, team_boss, etc.).
