you mean like winning the olympic 1500m? or finishing second in two WC 1500ms? or winning two 5K WCs and one olympic 5k?
Name another runner around who has done that well in the 1500m - Kerr hasn't, Hocker hasn't, Wightman hasn't, Cheryoiut hasn't. ElG wouldn't be winning WCs every year if all this talent was around in his time.
Some of you are just haters at heart. I feel sorry for you.
I mean keep in mind El G had Ngeny and Lagat to compete against, both of whom were faster than the #2 in the world now.
El G is the goat of the 1500 and it's still not even close. I don't think Jakob will outdo El G's 1500m accomplishments, but I think he could have the same/better success at 5k. He's already racked up an Olympic gold and 2 WC golds, and it doesn't look like anyone is gonna be able to beat him soon.
I wonder if we’d think about Jakob differently if he hadn’t run the last 3 global 1500’s at all. Those are the races of his that people focus on most, yet outside of those he’s won 3 straight 5K championships (an underrated accomplishment), set two WRs, and run 3:26/3:43. Yet most of the conversation is still about how he got 4th in Paris in the 1500.
Nobody cares about boring long-distance races. 100m is the flagship event for a reason.

Of course that’s the conversation because the Olympics is a little bit more important than a DL event. Athletes train for years to peak at the right time for Championships. The don’t think ‘oh I better peak at that random DL event in Poland’.
Right but my point is that he’s still won 3 straight golds in the 5K, which is extremely hard to do. Your response is illustrating my point that it’s a very underrated accomplishment IMO
Racing the 1500m earlier in the week was key. That's always the way to set a fast time: get your legs "charged" from a shorter, faster race. I believe Jakob will set the 1500m WR if he races an 800m days before.

Right. Yes I agree actually and I was wondering the same. Why is 1500m seen as ‘better’ than the 5k and also the 10k?
