Gee you are sensitive....and clearly a Valby fan(atic)...I hardly said she did poorly. I believe in the first thread about how she did I said "She did fine". And I would repeat that today. But yes, in my opinion, citing performance relative to just one runner is "nitpicking".
I followed my original up with other runners in the race; I haven’t (yet) mentioned the seasoned pros Lukan, McColgan, or Van Es.
I originally chose the biggest scalp, the one that ran 30:24 at Prefontaine first, which isn’t nitpicking, when compared to other posts before mine that said no one wants to sign Valby.
But after posting that factoid in a thread that once again had gone off-the-rails by the usual spamming troll Amstringlivs, for you to then chime in with what you admit was a dumb post, all the more reveals that you actually are the heavily biased “sensitive” “fanatic”.
So where is another of the Tuohy-ite cast-of-characters, “Blank321”, the more tempered one?
These people are worse than scorned lovers. They predicted that she would get lapped and finish 20th place. Instead, she ran with leaders and they claim that it is not a good performance. They really are pointing out how dumb they are. They now say that she could never finish any higher because she isn't good enough. But somehow, this wasn't a good performance? Tuohy fans are crazy. Valby is great. Tuohy is washed up. It will take years before these remaining Tuohy fans wither away.
Battocletti finished the 10k only a tenth of a second behind the winner and world record-holder Chebet. She put 15 secs between herself and Valby in a lap and a half. There is nothing comparable between them.

If it had been a race from the gun Valby would have been lapped - almost twice. It was a race for less than the last two laps and Valby was dropped as soon as they kicked. No response.
You would have said the same thing about Battocletti before the Olympics. You are always wrong because you are so biased that you can't see straight. Tuohy is washed up. It kills you but Valby is an Olympian and your girl is a has been.
What a sad man. The continual discounting of a young runner who has already achieved more than most runners will ever achieve in a lifetime speaks to your rather miserable way of viewing life.
There were 10 runners who achieved more than her in just one race.
Do consider Rupp's Olympic 10K debut a failure? Parker was younger. She placed higher than Rupp and was closer to the leader.
Paris 2024 Women's 10000m 1st Place 30:43.25 Beatrice Chebet 11th Place 30:59.28 Parker Valby 16 seconds back
Beijing 2008 Men's 10000m 1st Place 27:01 Kenenisa Bekele 13th 27:36 Galen Rupp 35 seconds back
Rupp's Olympic debut came in the 2008 Beijing Games, in which he set a U.S. Olympic record in the men's 10,000m with a time of 27 minutes, 36.99 seconds, finishing 13th. He was just 22 years old at the time and still a junior at the University of Oregon.
I knew exactly what Battocletti was going to do. People were actually comparing Valby and Battocletti, and I knew Battocletti was going to have another Olympic leap and said so.
Battocletti is also among the most suspect athletes at the games. She showed what chemistry can do. If Valby competed clean then she has a real future. If not, then probably not.

I didn't say she was a failure. I am pointing out to over-the-top fans she hasn't accomplished anything of note yet at an international or Olympic level. She might never. That Rupp eventually did is no guarantee she will. So far, 11th is merely participation in an Olympic final (without heats) - and without distinction.

At Tokyo Olympics at 21 years old, Battocletti was worth 14'30 in a meeting race, according to her coach. She's on a different level compared to Valby.

You have no idea who you are debating with. I don't support any runner here. I also believe Battocletti is a likely doper and thought that before the Olympics.
I think she went in with tempered expectations, knowing what she was up against, but she’s clearly not satisfied with the result. I’d say that’s a good sign for her future. Sounds like we won’t see her race again until next year.
Valbymania is not about irrational and unfounded exuberance placed upon one runner, but a celebration for the striving for excellence in the pursuit of greatness in running. Parker achieved great things this past year in the NCAA. As a fan, the Expectations for her to accomplish Great Things is high! Putting limits and dampening excitement for the future is incompatible with Valbymania.

You could celebrate the same in an enthusiastic dedicated club runner. But there aren't countless threads about these anonymous heroes. You and her fans here have formed a cult about a runner who hasn't yet achieved anything at the top of the sport and may never do so. Proportion is what is lacking in your devotion.
Wow. The unwarranted cult like posts pertained to Ping in junior high and Tuohy in high school. As much as you now try to diminish Valby's accomplishments, she is the fastest American in history. She is the fastest NCAA runner in history. She is an Olympian. To not celebrate the best runner ever is what would be questionable behavior. To put those things down would make someone insane.

you certainly post some interesting things. Fastest in NCAA history - YES. Olympian - YES Fastest American in history - IN WHAT EVENT???

“Fastest American in history is history” is a phrase that is thrown around too easily. I’ve heard supporters of Wiley use the same phrasing.
This is not to diminish Valby’s accomplishments but let’s not say that she’s the fastest in history.
Fastest in the 3000? Nope, she doesn’t appear on the list. ESP is the fastest in the 3000 with a 8:20.xx performance.
The 5000? Nope, not in the top 10. Fastest in American history is Alicia Monson with a 14:19ish performance.
The 10K? Nope, again that is Monson with a 30:03ish run. Again, Valby is not in the top 10.
Quit saying “fastest American in history” until if she actually is the fastest American in history. Doing so beforehand diminishes the meaning of the phrase.
