It's not even clear the degree she is intersex. The ONLY ruling made was by the Russian control IBA. She was cleared by the IOC. Here is a news flash for all the confused conservatives, just about every female athlete at the games has higher than average testosterone.

Sometimes, in sports you just get beaten by the better person. The only part if find odd is the Italian quitting for her health. Why do a sports that gets you repeated punches to head if that is your main concern.

Algerian athlete did not pursue any modification/action to gain a competitive advantage. Born on earth just like the 7-footer who has an advantage over me in basketball.

Testosterone level testing is there to eliminate those who pursue a competitive advantage. There is absolutely nothing this athlete did to acquire a competitive advantage.

Swimmers have big feet. Soccer players (especially forwards) have small feet. Perhaps we should standardize foot length and force shortening (or in some cases, lengthening) in order to participate in Olympic competition. Nonsense!

Italian was a drama queen. Then bring Georgia Meloni in to this conflict who is at the opposite end of the spectrum. Forget about athletic competition. Let's litigate. Far more interesting. She was not "cleared" by the IOC. The IOC only looks at the passport. If that says female it's OK for them. That's not "clearing".

Every female at the games has a testosteron in the female range, or she's doping or has a DSD. No regular female athlete has a testosteron in the male range.

The exact nature of the failed test hasn't been confirmed due to confidentiality, but the IBA came out with another statement yesterday basically unofficially confirming these athletes are not female.

As for the "trans" angle. It doesn't matter to me if they are trans or intersex (nor does it matter to the IOC who only look at what gender it says in the passport). I take issue with any male being allowed to compete against females in a sport where that yields an advantage. A male beating up a female in boxing at the Olympics, in front of millions of people, I think that absolutely qualifies as a travesty to any sane person. A sporting travesty, a moral travesty, and a PR travesty.

In combat sports we have always recognized an inherit biological advantage and adjusted for that. It's why we have weight classes, it's why the 110 lb guy doesn't wrestle the 185 lbs monster.

It's fine to allow people with this condition to compete, but due to their biological advantage they should have to compete vs men order to make it fair.

No, that’s silly tunnel vision extrapolation. There are many other ways of ensuring fairness, for example, by placing intersex women in a higher weight class than their weight if they are indeed shown to have a strength advantage relative to their actual weight. You just have something visceral against people you perceive as men hitting women, so you can’t think beyond that.

I don't know anything about DSD health care in Algeria or Taiwan. But if it is anything like in the US or Australia, it's very likely no one told them the whole story until well into their adulthood.

There are many women with 46XY DSD who were not told about their "genetic difference" until they were adults. When they saw gynecologists as teenagers, there were told they would never have periods and they would never get pregnant. But they were not told the real reason. Doctors either told them some made-up fake reason, or didn't explain the reason. It often took them to demand answers from their doctors after they learned information on DSD from other sources.

That's one of the big problems in DSD health care. The patients are often kept in dark, and cannot make decisions on their body fully informed. It's hard to imagine the health care in Algeria or Taiwan is more transparent.

So those boxers must have known their bodies are "different" for at least the last 10-15 years. But they might not have known the real reason for their difference, or the difference is genetic.

Male boxer Lin Yu‑ting of Taiwan, defeated Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova at the Paris Olympics by unanimous decision and left the female boxer in tears as she walked out of the ring.

The Taiwanese boxer landed several massive blows on Turdibekova, showing his strength over her.

Lin Yu‑ting failed a gender eligibility test at last year’s World Championships and was disqualified.

This is the second male boxer to defeat a female in the women’s boxing category at the Paris Olympics.

DSD's common representation is for testosterone not to be taken up in the womb, resulting in a failure of development of primary sexual characteristics, but for relatively "normal" development of male secondary sexual characteristics. There are other ways it presents, but this seems to be the recurring presentation when men try to present as women and are then banned due to excess levels of testosterone which can only be produced by XY males with testes.

I have no idea why people keep talking about men with micro penises or internal testes being "inter-sex", They are not. They are men, with physical issues and usually internal testes.

How many times do I have to make this point? Abolish womens sports now. Make it men-only* and none of this needs to happen. We tried women at the Olympics. It failed. Let's move on.
