Parker Valby diss journalists - the new Sha'Carri?

If I was her agent, I will give her a cheat sheet on the easy questions.

Q: how do you feel, Parker?

A: This is a stupid question. Which media are you associated with? CNN? Okay, clearly you are the most stupid journalist I have ever seen.

Q: how did you prepare for this race? Are you happy with how it turned out?

A: I am prettier and faster than my competitors. Front running or not, I will receive the most attention and win by a lot. By the way, I also sign a lot of autographs afterwards. I believe me and Abraham Lincoln are two of the greatest runners in the United States history.

Q: what do you say about your fans?

A: I see several comments suggesting that women in general hate me. That is simply not true…just look at my social media. I have a lot of female fans.

I agree with you, but that isn't really the point I was trying to make. Obviously both athletes know what peaking is and they, nor their coaches invented the concept. The question that I was addressing is what were they peaking for?

With Nico I feel pretty safe in assuming that he was peaking first and foremost for Trials. He ran a huge 10k early on to hit the standard and then basically laid low, focusing on shorter races throughout the track season. He ran a couple of events at Big Sky and only one event at NCAA's. He was not sharp enough to win that event either, although Wolfe's showing at trials shows that he is a monster right now in his own right.

Valby is a little bit harder to gauge because she won the 5k and 10k at SEC's and set records in both events at NCAA's. That's a tough racing schedule. So the question wasn't do they know how to peak, but particularly in Valby's case, what was she really peaking for?

I coach high school in California and we have a four week postseason during track season. We have kids who we know are headed to the state meet barring disaster and kids who aren't guaranteed to get out of the league championships (first round). Their workouts are designed to peak at different times and we make those decisions a couple of months out. We have definitely had some kids over the years who we felt were not guaranteed to get out of the league meet, but had a breakthrough and then were able to carry it through for a few more weeks. They loved it, but the original goal and the training that went with it, was run great at league and see what happens after that. The rest was icing on the cake.

So for Valby, it would be interesting to know if her training was designed to make sure she was at her absolute best at trials or if it was designed ensure a great performance at NCAA's and optimistically let the chips fall where they may after that.

And yet I'm guessing it's mostly men posting on this thread picking apart an innocuous IG caption. To me, she seems like I'd expect a 21-year-old with a lot of success and attention, but not a lot of life experience, to act.

I was in the mixed zone for both this event and when Sha'Carri actually did go off on the media. I ended up with Parker giving me her phone number and Sha'Carri giving me a hug. So to say that it's women and their personalities that are the problem, I disagree.

What I've noticed being there surrounded by (mostly) male reporters is the lack of emotional intelligence. For example, you should be able to read body language, facial expressions and the general energy of the person before asking them questions. You should also be aware of your own body language/facial expressions/energy.

For example, I distinctly remember Sha'Carri walking through as fast as she could, eyes forward, yet a guy kept literally yelling at her to stop for questions. As much as we all (myself included) would prefer the athletes to stop, we aren't entitled to them. This really applies to any human interaction.

Another example that happens often with many athletes is that they may become emotional to the point where they clearly need to stop to breathe/regroup, yet some reporters don't take the hint to turn off their camera. Yes, some tears and emotion are good, but not when they aren't able to speak. Take the camera/recording device out of their face and give them a minute.

tldr -- all male reporters need to be mind readers. That'll fix everything.

Whoever she might be off the track, what should matter is that she raced hard AF in both finals.

Lets be honest here, if Valby was a man, there will be hardly any criticism on this.

I dont think at the elite level linear periodization is the same. you have to be at near best for much longer stretches . so when people continue to say is this person peaking to early or too late, I really dont think it works like that.

Brojos - why are you not utilizing Stephanie Ross better? She gets it. She understands that there is a time and place for things. She doesn't awkwardly blurt out half baked thoughts just to get 10 seconds of video content or some rationale to slag someone. I've also never seen an awful hot take from her.

Stephanie - maybe it is time to drop these bozos and move full-time to Fast Women? Parker gave you her number, Quigley was willing to chat last year until you had to disclose that you were with Let's Run, and Sha'Carri seems to trust you. You could get the kind of access that the LRC Boy's Club would never get because of this site's reputation.

No wonder Parker Valby knows the so called T&F "media" is full of posers, fakes, and wannabes.

Since the Cave Man, to gain access and favors the rich suck up to royalty by working for free, by offering virgins, slaves, vegetables, livestock, land, etc.

Nothing has changed.

Right now, wealthy families produce T&F TV Shows pro pono and peddle them on the indie market for nothing to broadcast on Fox, ESPN, Peacock, etc.

Wealthy families fill volunteer roles at IOC, WA, DL, USOPC, NCAA, Athletics Canada, Penn Relays, etc.

Thus the Brick and Mortar facilities are ghost offices where everyone instead works at home.

Except for the CEO and one office manager, daily tasks have totally been off shored or rendered to cloud based discounters.

No job opportunities remain for those who need a salary, medical, dental, and paternity leave.

It's impossible to get in the door.

Did she back talk a true journalist from the LA Times who works in the news room or someone who works in the warehouse who gets credentials from the editor for example?

Emotional intelligence is a net positive in ALL human interactions, not just with respect to interactions between athletes and reporters. Possessing emotional intelligence does NOT equal requiring anyone to be a mind reader, but it most certainly is a quality worth cultivating if one does not already have it, which you clearly do not.

I have seen the post race interviews of Bannister and Landy after the "Miracle Mile" at Vancouver in '54. The winner and the loser in that epic race. Both spoke intelligently about the race and graciously of the other. You wouldn't think that would be too hard. But it seems Valby fans think it is - win or lose.

He isn't a collegiate runner who has never shown a kick.

It's unfair because she is "pretty". Of course. That's what matters to most here.

So let's not ask them about it. In fact they are always thinking about running so let's not ask them anything about that either.
