Absolutely! Did you hear the interviewer say “gang squad” referring to the gators and Valby corrected him “it’s squad gang” saying it in reverse.Completely honest and funny. Wish others like markezich of ND, may of Providence, roe of OKST would follow suit. Would give fans more insight and generate a bigger following for the sport.
After her 14:56 5000m at BU, I suggested she could likely break 8:35, and come close to running 8:30 in a 3000m with optimal pacing, after some weeks of prep work. I said at the time, based on her post-race celebration at BU and with a bit better pacing, she maybe had a 14:54 in her that night, and the Jack Daniels’ Calculator says that is equivalent to an 8:34.
8:30 is 34sec/lap. Tonight she was held back to 36.5sec/lap for the first five laps, then soloed the remaining 10 laps at 34.4sec/lap, while going around a lot of athletes in the process.
Therefore, with optimal pacing, I still don’t think an 8:30 3000m is unrealistic.
"Div I cross training" did you take a vacation? Welcome back. You're literally one of the few "true" XC fans on this site.
I agree, Valby is capable of sub 8:30 right now and 14:10 in 2 years. Let me know where you think the gators will finish in XC. I say #3 and 1 new transfer away from #1.
Balderdash! Parker will likely run the 5k in two weeks, but I would like her to run the 3k and go after Tuohy’s record. I’m confident she would break it. She’s getting faster and her competitors are scared.
Expect Great Things!!!
Valby does not look tired after she runs, and didn't look tired running this 3k. Given that, I would say she could go quite a bit faster and probably break the 3k record in a fast race (or come very close).
The 5k is pretty much locked up for her at NCAAs, but it is possible Markezich could beat her in the 3k. especially if close at the end. Markezich has more speed and Valby will need to run away.
Markezich has 4:22/8:40/15:?
Valby 4:31/8:42/14:56
My guess is she will enter both 3k/5k but DNS the 3k if Florida is out of team contention by then.

That is the odd thing about her, at least to me. While running it looks like she is going as fast as she can. But right after the race she seems to be barely breathing hard.
Which is indicative of being structurally, rather than aerobically, limited. Building the chassis takes longer. Key is balancing tear-down and build-up, against overextending and the risk of injury.
