The over correction on weight is ridiculous. Being too heavy is a detriment to being a successful distance runner. To tell an athlete they are carrying too much weight is no more detrimental than telling them they are running their 400s too slow. It's just part of it.

She wasn't trying to be a marathon runner. You can see how the best have slightly different physiques from the 800, 1500 and 5,000. Mary Cain had power and she ran well with what was considered to be "extra" weight by Salazar until she stopped getting her period and became an anxious wreck. Another coach could've taken her through some slow periods with extra weight in her late teens/early 20s. It's up to her to find that fitness post Salazar but I imagine she is injury prone now.
There have been athletes who came back from cancer and war. Much worse trauma than getting told you're getting pudgy. The fact she hasn't lived up to her potential is on her. She needs to stop blaming other people for stuff that has happened over a decade ago now.
Being told you’re getting pudgy, and subsequently pressured to maintain an unhealthy weight which delays or stops your menstrual cycle during your adolescent years, can have lifelong effects on your bone health. By the time you’re 20, your bones are about as strong as they will ever be. If you don’t build up enough bone mass by then, which is exactly what happens to young girls who are underweight and not getting their periods regularly, you will not only be more prone to bone injuries, but will be much more likely to develop osteoporosis (and not just when you’re 80, but as early as your 20s and 30s).

Well, if you are really concerned about health you should not sign up for professional running. Nobody ever said that top level sports is healthy.
I wish the best for Mary Cain in her new endeavors.
At the end of the day, I think she can be this fast again (or faster) if she can get back down to her PR weight.
Wow! You're saying that Mary is overweight????
Are you a fat shamer? Do you want to destroy Mary's body?
You must be a Saladbar worshipper, a Trumper, and a Climate Change Denier.
Try to do better!
Are all those positions bundled on your authority, or can we mix&match? Some people don't sign up for a bundle, but do their own due diligence, making them really hard to predict to those who think polarity is a fact of life. If you suppot Cain to achieve fun and fulfillment in athletics...you MUST also hail the Ukrainian nazi war criminals as heroes, right? That's also a bundle deal, surely?
Let's say she got her $20 million. Nike agreed to pay it 2 million at a time. Now if there are way for Cain to get the heck out of the US that dodn't exacly make her super happy in trying to make "the grade" in athletics, and save a few millions on pay-off income still to receive...even moving to Ireland doesn't seem too bad. Ireland actually rates super highly in lists of countries that are great to live in. I met an Irish runner once, absolute awesome guy. A runner girl could do a lot worse, and I've seen them do worse.
I trained with a lady who joined my club at 19, she was then at maybe 800m 2:30 pace, if that. But she worked her ass off at practice and had natural great form. Tapered off the rescue swimming that she'd been into, got into a rhythm of track practice with a great club trainer who's delivered a bunch of Olympians as a total volunteer. She made it into the Olympics in a longer even, on the required A limit in a national record previously held by another Olympian.
If Cain was world class for a 17 y/o and Salazar's doping and calory restriction regimes didn't break her mind andbody completely, with a proper coach and healthy attitude to athletics, I see no reason she can't be a World and Olympic level runner when pushing 30. If anything, she may have been kind on her body and can peak later. When she puts in some max efforts on decent training load, her ideal event in this phase of her life might end up on the shorter or longer end, who is to know? World records are not the only thing to lace up for. Some dream of an Olympic entry. If she wants to do it and walk the opening ceremony flipping the bird at USA and Nike...maybe not the most graceful, but reading the attacks on her person here...it sure would be understood. In her place, I just might get me a lovely farm in Ireland rather than try and find a decent trainer in the US. She might also just become a body positivity trainer for a tiny club. Who is to know. She's clearly not hungry for attention, as the forum heroes need to tear the internet apart to figure out what she's up to, forcing them to just throw in some guesses an character attacks. Classy.

I wish her well! She will likely PR in 5k-13.1mi, if she wants to train for it. I wouldn't count out an athlete who is only 27. Someone with such innate talent can summon it at her age in 18-months time, with intense training.
I'm not surprised by this at all, actually. If she can blame America itself for her problems -- the land of personal responsibility -- that fits totally within her years-long resentment crusade.
You are really stretching here. Please tell us how you were there to know all the details of what happened during her traumatic ordeal?
I mean, we’re talking about a teenage girl. people deal with all kinds of personal trauma throughout their lives. You have no idea what she went through or what emotional damage remains.
I’m sure you have your own internal issues to iron out. Stick to that.
Mary Cain showed she was had very little power or bike handling skills as a cyclist in the one triathlon she did as a triathlete and likely got her sponsorship from the USA Triathlon dropped
Biking and running are not that highly correlated. Like you said, it's more power needing event. People think it's that easy to transfer talent from running to biking but it's not true. Those who can do all 3 events well are their own breed.

The coaches do this at even more popular NCAA sports like football. I forget his name but the he played for Orioles at CF. I remember reading how he keeps his calories low. Eating broiled chicken breast meats and salads when he prefers to eat fried chicken. Everyone has to make sacrifices at the elite level. For us hobbyjoggers it don't matter because our performance don't matter.

Mary won't PR in any running event. Her best running days are far behind her.
There is not a single thing that ever happened to marry that isn't the fault of the person staring at her in the mirror. It despise Alberto but you can't make you have a mental illness.
The very first time shoes made uncomfortable she should have spoken up over left. And that's how I'm on everything is on her and I don't care about her or what happens to her in the future.
Factually incorrect here sir!!! Mary was an innocent baby, Alberto was an adult male, married, seen it all, done it all. The power imbalance is super skewed!!! There was probably more immoral things Alberto did to Mary that Mary or otherwise hadn't reported or exposed out of respect for Alberto!!!
Trust me, whatever has happened with Mary that you and I read in the news, is just scratching the bare surface!!! There is always more......
