Right now on the 'Weekend in Edmonton' thread, the discussion has taken a turn
to one poster who is obviously trying to provoke me by suggesting I am a thief.
If they made these remarks with a reg. handle or better yet using their real name, they could be held liable. To hold someone liable for such remarks when they use a VPN is much more complicated - I know because I've done a bit of looking into this.
The thread is an example of how a thread quickly gets out of hand and how some posters sole agenda is to antagonize and harass someone else.
They are essentially breaking the law and getting away with it.
47 U.S.C. § 223
This law prohibits making harassing or threatening phone calls or sending harassing or threatening messages across state lines.
This law prohibits the transmission of obscene messages via a telecommunications device across state lines (such as telephone and email). It also prohibits using such devices with intent to abuse, threaten, or harass a specific person.
