Props to Valby! It was clear she was in exceptional form through XC.
I can't help but be in awe/amazed at Jenny Barringer Simpson's 5k record she broke. Considering the BU track, the super shoes, when Jenny set the records 15ish years ago at 15:01 it certainly would be worth something closer to 14:40ish now - just mind blowing.
If it is a typical championship style race I don’t see Valby making the team, I don’t think her training style allows for her to have the sharpness that other runnings have to be competitive in a kick. BUT I wonder if she would try to front run it? That would definitely be interesting.
The only ones who have the standard so far in the 5K are Monson, Cranny and Henes. Should be interesting
Tuohy has a higher ceiling. Lets see Valby get better.
Jesus, every step of the way...she won't win outdoor, she won't win xc, she can't run under 15 in a million years....yall ever get tired of being wrong? She is in the 14s, she's a pro.
Poll: which athlete should give everyone the biggest middle finger for doubting her?

If Monson is going for the 5k there won't be a typical championship style race sit and kick for the final There was't this year. It will be a fast race in the heat.

Jenny ran 3:59/9:12/15:01 in college. I don't think Valby, Wiley or Tuohy could do that combination right now, especially without super shoes.

Right now? Probably not. But 8:35 Tuohy from February? She would have been close. 8:35 is worth 4:01/14:45 on WA scoring tables. Based on her earlier mile and later 5k, she probably was closer to 4:04/14:50 shape, but I think that's just as good.
I really want to see what Valby can do in the 3k now. 8:35 is super strong, but even after a whole XC season, Valby managed to look pretty fresh after breaking 15. I hope Tuohy gets back to her usual self soon. 2022 XC was the last time we saw them both at their peak, and it was even better than the hype.

Maybe Valby will run the 3k at Millrose this year? Curious if Tuohy will as well, in a pro debut.

Wiley is too much of an 800/1500 runner to go 15:01 in the 5K right now. However, there is nobody collegiately who has ever come close to 1:57.6/3:59.1. There is no doubt Wiley could run 9:12. Simpson could not have gone 1:57.6/3:59.1/9:12 due to her too slow 800 speed just as Wiley lacks the endurance for the 15:01.
Just watched the whole thing (Flotrack took it out from behind the paywall). Valby was clearly well within herself for the first 4K, and was just flying on the last 5 laps. Just routine. She has no idea what her ceiling is - but this was not close to it.
