Solotraveling in India for a month…what am I in for?

You're a crazy risk taker. You're DEFINITELY not the right person that a female travelling by herself should be getting advice from.

I saw a video recently that was filmed either in India or Pakistan/Bangladesh where two young Western women are visiting a market and a horde of men starts to follow and surround them. There must be at least 100 thirsty incels at the end surrounding and pressing themselves against the terrified girls, and they /the mob end up off camera somewhere. The description didn't say what happened, but I can't imagine it was anything good.

Also from India. Would never go there as a solo female white person. I get treated differently as the locals can figure out in one second I'm from America. Constant scams and begging for money are unlike anything you'll ever encounter here. The poverty is unreal. You may not get trapped, but the harassment is real. Groping, touching, following all very comman.

Also the political landscape is different. Has become a very right wing place now. Just look at how zealously one poster keeps defending India and can't stand criticism.

Key point is traveling ALONE - terrible idea for any western female in India. If you are not staying with locals just don't do it, you will at the very least experience some form of harassment everyday. It's a very sexually suppressed country and women's rights are a joke there. Dudes on the streets openly salivate when they see a vulnerable young woman.

The key point is morality and doing right are not part of Indian culture. India openly trades with Russia. They support facism and terrorism throughout the world if they can profit off of it. They're barely better than China and might be worse for a female Western tourist. If you want an example of morality in India just look at the recent t&f competition where half the competitors ran away when drug testers showed up. Doing right isn't part of India's culture, its not something that is ingrained in the school system. Indian students cheat on exams and in classes to the point where a degree from India is pretty much worthless to western employers and universities. This country is full of morally bankrupt people.

That said, there are some good people there too. If you stay to western friendly tourist areas and travel with a group/guided tour you'll probably be ok. Just going out and exploring the country isn't a good idea though. I'd chose Europe or the Southwestern US instead.
