In my view, the only question is whether he is 100% and fit again following his illness. The 2M record was absolutely gone in my mind once we saw his 6x800m workout in advance of it. This time it's the end of the season and he's coming off of the world double and illness, both disrupting training.
Disappointed Femke isn't doing the 400. The hurdles provide no competition but there are enough sub 50 runners in the 400 that she could get pushed/pulled to a PB, especially with Klaver and Little who like to go out fast.
I'm pretty sure their coach does not want them to race each other, unless absolutely necessary.
Brussels is effectively a home meeting for the Dutch, and they will use it as a showcase in their primary events. A fast, easy win for Bol here is what the crowd will want to see. I also feel Bol may attempt a fast time, if she has the energy! The meet record is relatively soft, so she should at the very least get that.
On Klaver, she has an opportunity to win her first 2023 DL meeting, but she has her strongest opposition in Little and Bolingo inside her, which means she may go out too hard again.
Same bs I heard before the two mile. He’ll never get close, he won’t break 8, blah blah blah. Shattered it. Easily. Aren’t you guys sick of being wrong? I don’t understand why you think he won’t do it. Everything indicates he can. Everyone saying he can’t do it is basing it off the fact that he was sick at worlds but those same people are also saying he faked it?

That's the way this board is. Reminds of the Mo Farah vs. Chep debate: Mo Farrah is superior to Chep because he has more medals/WC titles. Chep wins another 10k world title but his time was slow...
Shocking. I was expecting more like 57.5 pace through the early laps (~2:23.75 through the K). 2:21 means he thinks he can run 4:42. I think the pacing requested is a strong indication that this record is about to go down.

His agent was questioned on these aggressive timings, and he replied they are subject to change.

He can totally do it - but the one difference between this and Paris is that he claimed and also appeared slightly off his game in Budapest and then he withdrew from Zurich. I don't think it's an ability issue - it's that he really needs to have his batteries fully charged to do this and there is a slight question around that. But I said earlier in the thread I think he will and I still think that now, a few minutes from the start.
Pacers seem to be akbache, kiprugut, and maybe Mcsweyn?
Before Budapest I personally believed this would be easily within his reach. In his 2 mile demolition he averaged 59.3 seconds a lap and it was hard to imagine (even more so after he ran 3.27.1 for 1500m) that he couldn't run 4 laps in 57.0 and close in about 56 flat (which would be 4.44.0.
Hicham in 99 ran 3.27.65, 3.43.13 and 7.23.09
Jakob this year has run 3.27.14 and his final 3000m of the 2 mile was 7.21.5 - to me that sets up better for the 2000m than El G's 99 season.
But, all of that being said, it's hard not to take into account what happened in Budapest with the "illness" - which honestly could be a symptom of a long season of truly elite performances (2 x sub 3.28, another sub 3.29 and the big 2 mile). Was passing on Zurich him a necessary "battery charger" or was it simply to put the "cherry on the sundae" for this tilt? Tough to know. I think this distance is perfect for him given his 1500m ability right now in his career but I still think he will have to be on his game to do it. I don't think even 95% Jakob can get this.
But I will trust that if he is lining up he is in shape, so I will still err on the side of him being the 2000m WR holder when he wakes up Saturday morning.
And there is your answer. It was just the cherry on the sundae - he was definitely on his game and good for him.
Can't wait to see the splits but he was perfectly at the top of the pacing lights (the green) for at least 1200m of that and then yeah - nobody is stronger than this guy, nobody.
