She just walked away into the stands after the semi. Didn’t shake hands or say anything to a single person. I haven’t followed her but has she always been that arrogant or is this a new thing? Is she just sick and tired of running and being forced to do this by her coach, agent, and/or Nike?
Ahhh, I know where you are - frantically writing a letter of complaint to NBC for Leigh Diffey, Ato Boldin and SRR pointing out the exact same thing almost everybody with two eyes and a functioning brain could see with Athing Mu during these championships.

Why do female athletes have to make nice?
Nope. Not everything is race and gender. Douchy behavior is douchy behavior, and not bothering to congratulate fellow runners, do even basic interviews, or comment about your career when you are making money off fans - that is douchy behavior for any race, any gender.
Interesting interview. Basically reinforces (1) She not only is still very young, but also she is immature even for her age (which is fine - makes me realize I should think of her more as a 15 year old v a 21 year old in terms of attitude/persona); (2) She is feeling tremendous pressure, and indeed did not want to “do” this season as seemed clear from the outset; and (3) She still needs to adapt to the American/track fan “what have you done for me lately” mentality - she repeatedly refers to her past accomplishments here, with the implication that people should get off her back. All in all makes me empathize for her more, though I still can’t say that I find her terribly likable personally.

#3 is so weak. This isn't just track fans, this is just life in general. In your job if you don't produce for an entire year you likely get fired. You can't just rest on what you've done previously. Track athletes get about one millionth of the negative attention of athletes in major sports, yet they seem to have less tolerance to handle any kind of criticism. The best players in other sports (Messi, LeBron, Curry, etc.) get unbelievable amounts of hate, yet they can still stand up and compete.
Normally she seems like a really nice person, but she see-sawed in this interview towards being really unlikeable.
- Snapping back at some of the Brojo's questions - sassy comments when asked about her holiday with "I will not be telling you!" - responding to Jonathan with "the world was already talking about me coming into this competition - whether or not I was coming" - yeah no sh*t because your coach said that you may not be competing. Maybe get a handle on your own press releases?! - She moans about people not knowing what the athletes are doing so make their own assumptions - that is literally normal. Maybe try engaging with your fans, stop hiding away and avoiding meets. - "coming third today isn't going to change what people expect from me in the future" - wrong, odds will be worse, people know your more beatable now, it's just like when Jakob lost to Wightman - Jonathan asked a great question about if Bobby told her he was making those comments and her really poor answer showed he hadn't discussed it with her - Mu presuming she's the only one to have 'been through alot in the past 2 years from college to pro'??? like cmonnnnn gimme a break
This is not 'evolving as an athlete', this is someone not-coping & not having the right people around her. She hasn't had a season, she's had a PR mess, she's not raced like herself and she's clearly not happy. Prayers for Mu.
Think its worth noting that Athing is young, but there's only 3 months between herself and Keely.
Athing: 8th June 2002
Keely: 3rd March 2002
They're both young, but not sure people appreciate how close in age they are considering how far apart they are as athletes re: experience and maturity. As Steve Cram said in the commentary, Mu needs to compete more if she wants to keep up with the other athletes in the field who are just as quick.

I thought her interview was fine. Hasn't everyone here wanted to snap at the LetsRun "journalists" when given the opportunity?
Y’all for real need to get off her dick. She owes nothing to any of us. She can quit tomorrow and it won’t change anything in our lives but hers would be much better cause she doesn’t have to deal with you parasites
It's clear she's feeling attacked by American T&F right now, and a lot of it has to do with this awful message board. Sadly, anonymous trolls do have power, and it's clear they are waging a successful campaign to drive out an absolute legendary talent. It's beyond sad, this interview.

Other track and field media are covering her much more fairly. I don’t see these same level of disgusting comments on T&F News forum or even Flotrack and other youtube videos covering this event.
It’s totally fine to question and criticize her race strategy and not competing enough and such, but there are so many ugly and very personal posts on here including one I just read on another thread where a poster called her mentally challenged. That s**t needs to stop.
