The 800 is just such a bummer of an event ever since Rudisha. As someone who ran the 800 watching these rounds is just painful. My 1:52 a$$ shouldn't be able to keep up with you all through 600.

Your 1:52 speed could beat some of the bottom finishers. Some 1:55-1:56 PRs out there stinking it up.
not that I think I know any better than these guys, but HOW on earth are they watching the heats before them and then still going out in 53-54 every heat?!
I mean the top 2 executed their races perfectly there. It’s more if it’s gonna be slow and you don’t have an outlier kick, be in the front and don’t leave it to the last 100. Murphy positioned himself well but created no separation. Harris trusted his mediocre kick way too much. Bol I have no idea.
If a runner goes out hard, they are criticized. If they go out less hard, they are criticized.
He split, 56.08, just 0.8 behind the leader's 55.28. Not exactly miles back.
That’s a significant deficit to put yourself in in a slow 800 at this level, at least when you’re not clearly the class of the field. In such a slow first lap you should put yourself in qualifying position and then try to stay there.
