Maybe the fat South American before Lalas. I forget his name
You forget my cousin who is playing center forward on the YMCA team. He has been dominating since age 8, in a level I have never seen in other places. Admittedly I am arrogant and don’t watch soccer elsewhere, I will simply put him one place above Lionel Messi.
It's fairly obvious that many of the people making comments (particularly negative ones) have never taken part in elite sport. Like everyone in the world, athletes of all varieties have a bad day, or, make a mistake. It's just that zillions of people are not watching while most do. Remember, there's those that do - and everybody else.
Huh? I’m sure she was a great soccer player. That doesn’t diminish my continued happiness today that they lost.
She is an angry, narcissistic, entitled, leftist tool who disrespects her country on the world stage. And because most of her teammates followed along, very happy to see them lose.
The fact that Rapinoe contributed to the loss was icing on the cake, baby!
The rest of the world has caught up. The hyped starlets of the US do not possess a nuanced understanding of the game. Tactically, the US will always be behind, and that can’t always be overcome by sheer athleticism. The coaching at all levels in the US is lacking. The young stars should look to challenge themselves in Europe rather than be comfortable in the domestic league. They could have won against Sweden but their play in the group showed this team was not going to win it all. The success of the USWNT shows how obnoxious and arrogant this country can be when it can dominate at a non traditional US sport, similar to Lance Armstrong. Thankfully, the USMNT will never be in a similar position.
The rest of the world is way ahead in football. Now they are paying attention to women's football and rapidly have overtaken the USA. A few years of Barca's youth system is enough to get well past anything the USA knows about.
It’s a lazy argument that people who protest inequality lack respect for their country. On the contrary, they respect it enough to try to make it better. You should try it sometime.
Incredibly accomplished footballer. Nothing is taking away her long storied career as a World Cup MVP and Captain and winner of the WC twice.
Enormously influential figure on sports and women. Outspoken and brash, unapologetically herself. Not every lady is polite, soft-spoken and gentle. It's nice to see some diversity in personality.
Certainly not afraid of getting under people's skin is she? And in that case, she probably isn't too cut up about weak little souls who are "celebrating" her poor showing today. She chose to become controversial and she understood what may come with it.
I disagree strongly with Rapinoe's stance on trans women in sports and like every outspoken person she's going to rub me the wrong way. But seeing all these right wing losers dancing on her grave makes me respect her more to be honest. You may think you won this battle, but a lot of young women are seeing what Megan has done and will be more outspoken as time goes on. Respect a legend.
This shouldn't need to be said but the most accomplished female footballer would not stand a chance of making any professional male football team's youth academy in the English football pyramid. Why? Physical strength and speed. The problem with people who have never played an proper organised football match is they have no conception about how physical football is. People seem to grasp this about Rugby Union which I have also played, I found the two games very similar in how beat up I was afterwards.

Italy and Germany did not even get out of the group stage and lost to SA and Colombia, respectively. Japan walked all over Spain. France could not get past Jamaica. Nothing magical about the European youth system other than it now exists and does a good job training soccer players from outside of Europe.
The title of this thread should be "Alex Morgan goes home devastated". Morgan is the team co-captain with Horan. Rapinoe was just playing out her last World Cup in a support role. The 2015 and 2019 teams were Rapinoe's teams. Maybe the USWNT needs to go back to being more woke?
Horan did a great job running the midfield but Morgan was nowhere to be found on offense. Morgan is one of the most prolific US goal scorers in USWNT history. But she was never there whenever the ball got inside the box. So, when Morgan is not making things happen and Rose Lavelle is out, that takes the USWNT down a notch in terms of offensive production.
Really? Morgan had great chances at 89' and 96'. (2:36 and 2:56 on the video below.) Musovic made great saves on both.
Sweden and the United States played against each other as both teams looked to make another appearance in the quarterfinals. Check out the top moments and hi...
Megan Rapinoe is probably the best soccer player in history (men included) and she and the rest of the women will regroup and come back better than ever. I pity the team that plays them the next time. Fool opponents!

That’s a long description when you could have summarized it with one word: choker.
It’s a lazy argument that people who protest inequality lack respect for their country. On the contrary, they respect it enough to try to make it better. You should try it sometime.
No, your argument is lazy. Think about it, bro. Her protesting “inequality” is whining about getting more money that is underserved. The values we should strive for in USA is meritocracy - the idea that the most prepared, the highest quality, the best skilled person will win and receive the benefits of top performance. In the case of professional sports that means both winning consistently as well as generating revenue in the form of attracting large crowds to games to pay for tickets.
instead she wants a world where people are valued by their reproductive organs, their skin color, their sex. That’s not “better” for society. Also, refusing to accept an open invitation to the white house is not respecting the country. Quite the opposite. The president showed he could reach across the aisle support the women’s soccer team regardless if they won or lost and despite many on the team not sharing the same political philosophy as his own. They spit in his face. How is that respect to the country?
you see, meritocracy is an ideal that allows anyone the chance to achieve the top levels of their field provided that the person demonstrates sufficient merit.

Close only counts in horseshoes. If you are the featured striker and you play four games (one against far inferior competition) and you have zero goals to show for it, then you are not doing your job.

Guess you’ve never heard of a guy named Pele’
The poster is completely unaware of the gulf between male and female footballers, football is not like running, the physicality of your opponents plays a massive role. It isn't like saying that Paula Radcliffe is a greater marathon runner than Eliud Kipchoge because if they lined up in a marathon at their peak, nothing Kipchoge did could prevent Radcliffe running the race. The greatest female football player who ever lived would simply not get the ball in a way she could do anything with against competent male opponents. To put another way for an American audience, it would be like the claim that a woman is the greatest ever basketball player or American Football player. This isn't sexism, this is accepting reality, such as nobody rational would claim that a biological male is the best mother in the world.

No, the poster is a troll to bring out dumb responses like yours. Congrats for not realizing it.
