When 17, Warholm ran 2:45 in an Octathlon 1000m. That's at best a 2:35 for a 1000 alone. Which, if we convert very generously to the 800, is 1:57. Jakob ran 1:49 when 17.
Yeah Jakob also had the benefit of 4 years of 80-100 miles a week leading up to that
I guarantee Gjert could train Karsten to at least a 1:47, maybe 1:45
sure Karsten could probably do well (not as well as on the 400h tough) if he trained extensively for the 800. But it's not going to happen. Here are talking about a hypotetical race off no 800 training or just a week or two after WC.
You can't find anyone equivalent to Juantorena since. It's difficult to be "right" - as you think you are - when you can't support your argument.
You wrote "At the top in both events means at least be in championship finals in both."
I can support my argument. It even happened quite recently.
Show us what an expert you are. I mean, it's your claim!
The claim is that of the thread, that Warholm could be competitive with Jakob over 800 if not beat him. It is pure speculation at this stage. That a few other 400-hurdlers have run a world class 800 (1.45 or better) does not mean Warholm will. My money is still on Jakob.
“I am more excited about a 800 vs Jakob than more 400s and 400h (partly because I used to be a 800m runner). I don't think he will ever run sub 46 again. On the 400, I believe he can run 44.0 one day if he focuses on it.“ -I respect your view in this paragraph, but it’s not how I feel, because:
1. I think Karsten Warholm can break the 400mh WR again this year ( his 2023 Bislett time is 0.18 sec better than in 2021 -his new WR before his Tokyo WR 45.94 ). But he will need the same super conditions and “luck” in the Budapest run. And furthermore I think he has unfinished business in the 400 flat -would be exciting to see him and Rai and Allison breathing the specialists in the neck here, and maybe make a sensation or two. None of the three has showed us what they really can do here..!
2. 800m Karsten vs Jakob -could sure enough be a thrill, but both are so dominated by their main events (training for these) -hard to find the realism for them to prioritise to unleash their potential in this event (the many “tricks” and special training they may know), and we just don’t know what it is for sure…

Too many have brainwashed themselves into believing J Ingebrigtsen is a secret 1:45.0 800m runner. If Warholm and J I raced 800m three times, Warholm could win one or two simply by getting into sub-1:46.25 800m fitness. I never believed Warholm to be a secretly fast 400m sprinter. I know Warholm isn't a good 200m sprinter. By default, I believe Waholm to be a decent NCAA D2 level 600m & 800m man.
A 600 with a two-turn stagger (no pacemakers) would be interesting to me. If a Diamond League put one on and allowed athletes from the 400, 400H and 800 to apply points I’d be interested to see how it shook out.
Ugh, I hope a meet would actually get on this. Now that I think about it, this would be amazing.
Dream 600 might have:
Sumner, Warholm, Benjamin, Dos Santos, Jakob, Habz, WVN, Gardiner, Norwood, Kinyamal, and Wanyoni.
Race for the ages. Probably a new WR too.
Jakob would get absolutely rocked in that race as he has no business in a “world championship” 600m. DFL, with Habz second to last. And I’m one who thinks Jakob could likely break 1:45 in the right race.
Might as well remove Jakob, Habz and Wanyonyi (more of an 800/1500 guy I’m pretty sure) and have 8 men for a two turn stagger.
Emmanuel Korir (44.21/1:42.05 PBs) would be the best 600m guy in the world if he were fit and healthy. Seems like the Algerians Moula and Sedjati would be pretty strong too.
