Nuguse knows that he can run away from the others. And he is going to that. Your only hope at 1500. Then Hocker and Kessler. Nuguse 3:31 Hocker and Kessler 3:33.
Nuguse is not running 3:31 from the front alone. Just not worth the risk. He will go with 700-800 to go and close in 1:48-1:50 for a 3:35-3:38 time. Potentially Hocker and Kessler can match that. I have yet to see evidence that anyone else can right now, but Centro has done that many times in the past and Waskom, Green, and Holt might be able to hang on for 3rd if one of those top 3 breaks.

Oregon track freshman Cole Hocker edged out Yared Nuguse in the final stretch to take this exciting 1500m race at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Champ...

Not a bad take, I think Ritz wants Nuguse completely out of trouble and sends him right to the front.Big Mens 15 My hope is Nuguse goes out and just runs his 3:33 or better which is not that easy with no help, and Kessler can follow that. Which he would. Really hope its not a walkathon with traffic accidents waiting to happen…
Has there ever been this much depth at the championships? After Nuguse and Hocker, I wouldn't be surprised by any of the rest of the field getting third, and all of them finishing within a 1 sec spread. Within them, I think it will be either Kessler, Holt, or Gregorek.
12.65 last 100 should silence anyone worrying about Nuguse’s top end for a kick
Yes sir. I like to imagine Nuguse deliberately left it late to prove he could win in the last 100–though he probably doesn’t spend as much time on the LetsRun boards as I do, ha. 12.65 for Nuguse, nobody else under 13.
After rewatching the three prelims, I think it’ll be:
1. Hocker
2. Nuguse
3. Waskom
4-6 will be Kessler, Holt, and Prakel.
People are sleeping on Waskom. He pulled even with Nuguse with 100m to go in the prelim and looked great, took a few looks around and realized they were well clear of the field and jogged it in. I like him even better in a fast race.
Best predictions of the day go to:
Finance Bro. Got top 3 finishers (although no correct placings), and 5 of the top 6.
Horse Derbies. Predicted Nuguse/Hocker/Waskom.
If this were a contest and scoring was based only on the top 3 and their placings, Horse Derbies wins.
