Nuguse is not running 3:31 from the front alone. Just not worth the risk. He will go with 700-800 to go and close in 1:48-1:50 for a 3:35-3:38 time. Potentially Hocker and Kessler can match that. I have yet to see evidence that anyone else can right now, but Centro has done that many times in the past and Waskom, Green, and Holt might be able to hang on for 3rd if one of those top 3 breaks.

Hocker has experience closing in 1:48(56/52) to beat Nuguse.

3. Kessler, if he’s smart, stays on Nuguse and only gets run down by Hocker. If he doesn’t go with Nuguse, he doesn’t make the team.

Has there ever been this much depth at the championships? After Nuguse and Hocker, I wouldn't be surprised by any of the rest of the field getting third, and all of them finishing within a 1 sec spread. Within them, I think it will be either Kessler, Holt, or Gregorek.
