People often use “irony” when they mean something else, the analogousness in this case being more a sad coincidence than an irony (singular); or you could say “the sad ironies”.

Look up any stories from people who work on cruise ships. If someone jumps or falls off they are as good as dead most of the time, and that’s somebody at the surface, perhaps even with a life preserver. People forget how massive the ocean really is, and it doesn’t take much for people to be hidden behind waves.

That’s a silly argument. I’m sure the families of the billionaires would be happy to agree to pay for their rescue.
