Apparently several of the federal charges carry the possibility of prison sentences. And there are no less than seven charges brought against him as mentioned above.

That is all I see M@GA people do. That and claim all the institutions are corrupt, and this is election interference. For people who claim to stand for law and order and who claim to love the US, they hate a lot of US institutions and do not think their guy should be able to do anything he wants and not get charged with any crimes.
On CNN Trump attorney Jim Trusty said among the charges are:
18-USC-1512 - witness tampering
18-USC-793 - violation of the Espionage Act
18-USC-1519 - destroying, altering, or falsifying records in a federal investigation
Trusty said that a conspiracy charge was also included.
Be interesting to see what the witness tampering is. The one glaring thing is that false affidavit on June 3, 2022 that said a search had been done and all documents had been turned over. Someone needs to get busted for that, and if Trump got the lawyer (Christina Bobb) to submit the false affidavit, that seem like it could be considered tampering.
And the conspiracy charge. With who? Seems like it would have to be one of the idiot lawyers or close confidant (family member?). Will that person be charged?
And maybe we will finally find out who the Mar-A-Lingon snitch is . . . .

Sure. I don't understand how Hillary got away with mishandling classified information at a level far beyond that which would have sent me to prison.
I also don't understand how Biden got away with leaving classified information at U Penn.

Biden (and Pence): Didn’t willfully retain classified documents when discovered. Nor did they commit witness tampering. Or obstruction. Or conspiracy.

Just to summarize, every president, vice president, and even a Secretary of State since Clinton have pretty much violated the same law. Whether they were nice about it or not is immaterial (it was easy for Biden and Pence to comply when they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar after the raid on Mar-A-Lago). The law should be applied consistently. As for your celebration of the whistle blower being fired, that pretty much violates a number of laws and reinforces the belief that the justice system has been weaponized during the current administration.

2) Do we, as a country, expect that the laws apply to all citizens, or are a privileged few allowed to ignore them?
If the answer to both of these is yes, filing these charges is right and he should pay the consequences. If the answer to both is also yes to others, like Hillary, the same applies.

It rolled off his tongue so often it turned into a quasi religious chant of his base. T shirts were made and flags were sewn with this chant. He got into office and even firmed up the penalties for doing so.

Trump had a box of documents (as did Biden, in multiple places)
Hillary had a publically internet facing exchange server that tied back to SIPRnet (a govt network solely for classified docs). This takes clear coordination for that sort of configuration to exist. There are literally physical encryption/decryption keying modules that need to be altered for this to work. Very clear intent.
So no, what Hillary did was exponentially worse than either of the two.
