Bobby Kersee just gave a lengthy interview with the Orange Country Register and shared a ton of interesting details.
-Claims McLaughlin-Levrone irritated her hamstring and that's why she is out of the LA meet
-Says Mu got COVID a week ago and it threw her off her game
-SML will run flat 400 at USAs, Mu will run 1500
He also thinks Mu could double in the 800/1500 at the '24 Olympics:
"The 800/1500 or 400/800 has been done and I think Athing has that ability and I think if the schedule allows it, it would be nice to see for a woman to double the 8 and 15 at a very high level with the potential to gold medal in both."
Also says SML and Mu won't race each other in a 400.
"'No, no, no,' Kersee when asked about the potential 400 matchup. 'No. They train (together) enough. Racing them together is not needed. Particularly for me. … It would not make any sense for me to put them together.'"
What do you guys think? I wonder how much of having Mu do the 800/1500 is making sure she doesn't race Sydney in the 400. Mu was more of a 400/800 runner in college (she set the NCAA 400 record!) and her 1500 pb is only 4:16. Plus Kersee has no history coaching the 1500. Doesn't make any sense to me to put Mu in the 1500. Heck, I'm not even sure she'll make the US final in that event.
That said, I'm fascinated to see how it goes.
