Tommy Hughes kicked my as at London 2021. Came in 2nd after him with a 2:50:46 at age 60. Had never heard of Tommy Hughes until that day. He ran a 2:30 - i think. He's at a different level than us mortal humans.
Age grading is totally flawed. I'd bet a bunch that if one twin has 100K miles on their legs vs. another twin who started late and has 25K miles on their legs, they aren't going to be performing equally. The 100K mileage runner is going to be pretty cooked while the late bloomer is going to have fresher legs.
Not necessarily. 60 year old Steve Moneghetti recently ran 15:58 for 5000m, an age group WR and he would have 100k miles on his legs.
This lady has fresher legs and her 2:45 marathon age grades to 2:08:47 for an open age female. That's way beyond what even Hassan could run at Berlin.

former runner, no one is arguing that testosterone is a performance enhancing and recovery aid, so you are deflecting the discussion.
However, for years and years now you have been insinuating and outright stating--over, and over, and over--that anyone over 40 running somewhat fast (faster than you? lol), say above 80% age grade is more than likely be on some sort of testosterone replacement therapy. And that anyone who declines <1 must be on the sauce. I disagree, and tire of your frequent semi-informed, but same old same old "it's all about the T with masters runners."
That is an incredible performance. My personal stance on this is she probably is a person that leads a very healthy lifestyle to run that time at age 59. also staying healthy and injury free and smart training. Not sure her background but possibly someone who wasn’t pounding it and running a lot for many years between the ages of 20 to 40? iIn any circumstance incredible time. congratulations!!

Well said. This place is toxic. You're a breath of fresh air.

Isn't that cute? What did the Easter Bunny bring you this year?

Stop. Just stop.
This place can be toxic, but this isn't one of those times. Father time is undefeated. This lady is no exception.
The mistake Jenny made was running too fast. This is a great story if she ran 259, heck even pushed it and ran 255; but she got greedy and ran 245.
It's not a matter of a little smoke, it's a forest fire. She's doing something illegal, and knows it.
Age grading works. It's a huge database of information over a long period of time. Some outliers are explainable, Tommy Hughes was mentioned earlier. Former elite, took a ton of time off, great responder to vaporflies. But even Tommy is slowing down. He'll never crack 230 again, and I'd be surprised if he has more than one sub 235 in him.
With that in mind, consider Tommy age grades around 100%. Hitchings age grades 105%. THat's a HUGE difference.
I'm just a scrub who has age graded 85-87% since turning 40. Over an 18 month period I gave up all alcohol, almost all processed foods, lost 1-2kg, did more stretching, went to the chiro more, and guess what....I still age graded 85-87%.
I'm not jealous, just annoyed that this is what our society has become. Call me a saddo, hater, toxic, whatever. Fine. Just look in the mirror and ask what it's like to be a cheater.
Taking Drugs=anti aging hormone therapy. We've normalized this type of healthcare. It's not like she "knows a guy" who sells vials of unmarked steroids at gnc or the gym. More than likely, the therapy comes from a licensed medical practitioner.
Fine with me if that's how you want to "age" Not fine if you're a competitive runner.
I ran the inaugural Indianapolis Life Masters circuit back in the mid-90s. There were guys doped to the gills, and prize money involved. As well as I was running, I was always just out of the podium and money. Pissed me off.
But that brings me to my main problem with doping amongst Master's runners: it undermines the achievements of people who improve through hard work. It makes everybody's times not believable. And that takes away from others' enjoyment.
Yeah, this is my only issue with it. I gave up caring about what other people do to their bodies. I might be on the cusp of where someone would accuse me of using "anti-aging" methods just based on times. I guess that's on them, but I work my butt off. I'd rather not be lumped in with people taking shortcuts.

That's awesome information, my friend! I switched from regular drinking of stout beers to drinking bourbon and ginger ale (sugar instead of HFCS) and am losing the belly I had developed. I'm gonna just keep running, baby! (and drinking Kentucky mules)
Just made me think of a joke (not sure if original). What do you call intimacy lubricant aids made in Kentucky?
Does anybody know what this is equivalent to on an aged based basis. Is that 245 equivalent to a sub 220 as a 30 year old? Just curious. Would like to embark on running again after a very long rest. Best I can hope for maybe is sub 3 on a good day.
