I guess there is some confusion because there are 2 records and both were owned by Sahlman but at different races. The national record and the Arcadia meet record.

There really is only one record ..Verzbikas 8:29 for two miles maybe 8:26 for 3200? All this other stuff is in the Eric Hulst , Ralph Serna stuff, in a race like this? German 8:34 yards?

Sahlman owns no records really, his 8:33 3200 converts up to 8:36+ yards

How is the winning mile time 4:12, but 3 kids went sub 8:35 in the 2 mile? Or do all elite runners just know to only run the 2 mile?

You are reading that wrong. The winning mile time was 4:12. There wasn't a two-mile run.

I think Eric Hulst ran 8:44 yards in like '75?

But you don't decide how they derive the national record for 3200m, and the question was not what should be the national record, but what is the national record.

I will say this without debate from anyone..Webb ran 8:45 yards, on a dog crap track saw that before he ran 3:53.x

Not one person alive would have thought he could not have run sub 8:30 yards

In contrast to the 3200m, the Arcadia Invitational mile frequently is a not a big PR race. Often it turns into a sit and kick

In fact, the fastest mile of the meet was Daniel Simmons in the 4xmile, in 4:08.38r

Imagine losing by .04 after running 4:08 the day before. Maybe if he only split 4:10 he would have won. Super impressive.

Simmons is already a beast and he's only a junior. Really backing up that 2nd place finish at NXN with some excellent track times. He's got excellent mechanics too, I can definitely see him being a top NCAA runner once he gets back from his mission

Newbury Park….

Dickran was scratched from the 800.

Schohn was scratched from every race this spring. He has yet to run one race

Sahlman and Seymour - scratched from the 3200

Newbury Park did have Sahlman run 1:49 to win the 800, set up the fastest/deepest 3200m high school race ever, and had Aaron Cantu run 8:57, but otherwise a surprisingly light turnout. However, they had more pr's just this week in a smaller meet, including a 9:27.
