I realize that some here are irritated with what they perceive as “Tuohy-worship”. I contend that anyone who’s progressed this rapidly for at least 8 years, outside of the US, would get equal attention. She’s got close to 100K instagram followers, that is to a great extent why we see this type of attention. She’s built up that following through remarkable HS/college careers. She’ll need to add a few more titles to be labeled an NCAA “goat”, and we’ll know in the coming weeks/months. Barring injury it’s a pretty safe bet, including the Bowerman prize. If what we anticipate will happen there’ll be not only a sure bet that a pro contract will be waiting but that there’ll be a bidding war for her joining.
We all need something to root for after the stressful pandemic years that for the first time saw a drop in life expectancy. That’s a tangible contributor to the standing ovation. Why there all so many here to poo-poo what we are seeing unfold is the product of the ‘ugly side’ of the internet. Too bad, there’s no need to exaggerate to appreciate this with an open heart. I guess the ankle-biters here are either jealous or ignorant of the facts.
She hasn't even made a team yet. That would be the next stop before even talking all time legend. To do that this summer she will have to get through Shweizer, Cranny, Monson (who may do the 5k), Morgan, Henes, Rogers, infeld and others . I think it is possible, but the 5k will be very competitive

There is nothing poo pooing in my statement about Tuohy or her accomplishments. Not an ankle biter and not jealous, I am in fact a fan. But people do need to come down to earth a bit with the hyperbole.
As I said, I think she can probably make the team this summer. Most would agree you kind of need to accomplish that before these conversations about becoming an all time legend outside of the NCAA, and she will have a lot of stiff competition. That is the next step.

If you’re under the illusion that she won’t be wooed by many if not all the teams, you’re not paying attention. She was among the first in her sport to get a NIL contract. You can bet on there being several offers waiting for her. The NCAA knows it. The pro’s know (and have said so). It appears you’re among the few who is either unaware or are willfully ignorant. Hodkinson in the UK and Mu have reached the top of the heap for middle distances and KT has won the right to be considered ‘elite level’ at this point as well. She ran the last K of the 3K on Saturday at a world record pace (2:45) while easily coming in the final 200 in 32s. That’s elite level for the distance.

By 'making the team this summer' I am referring to making a World's team, not a pro team....

You say she has ‘stiff competition’ … well, not at the NCAA level, unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last 12 months. At the pro level she does indeed have competition from a couple of runners, namely Monson and Morgan. She’s competitive with Morgan and a step or two still behind Monson (both of which have some years on her). The hyperbole, if it exists, is a reaction to the ‘anyone but Tuohy’ crowd here at LR. For the last couple of years we’ve been reading from a few about her being ‘washed up’ and not living up to her HS promise. She was recovering from surgery and that was ignored by the same crowd. Now that she’s surpassed Cranny and Henes in her last 3K race we still hear how she’s not at their level. Really? That’s why you get her defenders/fans push back at the repeated negativity, to date. Let it go and move on. You guys are sucking all the oxygen out of the air and joy some of us are feeling!

Ok…small chance. She’s proven to be competitive with last year’s top 3…but anything is possible. She knows she has to close with a 4:30 mile and that was the message she was telegraphing in her Saturday performance. She did just that, to prove to herself and others that she’s got that down.
