I didn't see anything significant either. Hartman took out the final heat so quickly she eventually dragged the field with her and therefore most of the time qualifiers came from that heat, even though I think some from the slower heats looked more talented.
Maybe the only thing I remember is Frias from Duke stumbling around the final turn and losing contact with the 3 in front of her. I didn't think she was impeded.
Looking at ACC results and Maatuog did run the 800 prelim in a fast time so I guess she runs the final tomorrow.
Yeah I just watched the race. Her teammate Tolbert took it out very fast, sub-60 for a collegiate 800 heat. Maatoug trailed sensibly and then took the lead with 200 remaining.
I was surprised Maatoug continued to push down the final stretch, even though she had the heat won handily. There was one automatic qualifier in each heat regardless of time. Maatoug may have been going for a school record and/or NCAA final qualifying berth. She knows there's no guarantee the final will be similarly fast, although her teammate Tolbert did advance to the final so she may attempt the same tactic again. Tolbert is a 400 runner and I was a bit surprised she ran 800 here instead of 400. Her recent time of 52.59 seemingly would have fit near the very top.
Maatoug had easily the fastest time today. But I don't think she's a big favorite or even necessarily the favorite in the final. The other top contenders took it easy today. Maatoug is not very big and cannot afford to get boxed.
BTW, these commentators are referring to Maatoug as a freshman. That is not close to correct. She had a year and a half of college in the Netherlands before transferring to Duke. She is a sophomore in terms of eligibility but she's also a very good student who has said in Netherlands interviews that she only plans to be at Duke for 2 years, taking accelerated loads to hopefully graduate in May 2024. Then she said she doesn't know what she'll do from there. She'll obviously go back to Netherlands that summer and attempt to qualify for Paris. I'm not sure Duke can count on her returning for grad school and her final year of eligibility.

I looked on WA and they show her birthday in Nov 2022 so maybe a sophomore by normal US age

Maatoug ran the fastest time out of the heats, 2:03.46. She looked very strong.
There is 40 minutes tomorrow between 800 final and 3000 final. I don't think Maatoug will run the 3000 unless the team title is still in play and Duke needs a weakened version of Maatoug to scratch out some points at 3000 to maintain a chance. They probably need the toss up early events to go their way like Wakefield in 60 hurdles and Maatoug in the 800.
Whoa, now THAT is a link for college track and field. Thank you! My new go to place for race videos to watch. I don't pay for ESPN+, ACC Network, or any of the others.
3000 will have Tuohy vs Marzich both after a days rest, maybe Bush and Maatog after running their 3rd race in 2 days, a totally fresh Chisholm and Curtis-Collins (9:00) as well as Roarck, Brown, Appelton, Churchill, Vestri coming off day 1 races - that is a large number of sub 9:05 in a conference race
Butler should win the 800m going away but her last couple races this season seems like she has struggled a bit? Last year at ACCs she split 4:29 on anchor, this year 4:34.97. She did have a PR in the 1000 and mile earlier this season but I am growing concerned for her at nationals.
Seeland is looking really sharp, has run 2:02 outdoors. She could take the win also.

Anyone still looking to squeak a qualifier who might push the pace?

Brown, Appleton, Curtis-Collins, Churchill are all on outside looking in with 8:57.12 the current #16. Might all be afraid to lead though. Chisholm might be the one as she sits at 9:04.
Not a new channel. Uploads content like this all the time. Gets taken down eventually. But yeah, it's a solid resource for sure. Just a heads up to download anything you really want to watch in the future since all running videos on that channel disappear after some time.

The few I post I make not searchable but allow anyone with the link to view....

Don’t sleep on Mitchell from BC, 2:03 and 4:35 this season. Looked great in prelim running 2:04 closing in 30.6
