Is it that hard? But this would explain the lack of information from the WH on this. Boy Biden needs to accelerate this. Zero debris?

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Monday that the US is still working to recover debris from three unidentified objects shot down in North American airspace over the weekend.
“We’re going to confirm what they are once we’ve collected the debris,” Austin said. “But to answer your question, we’ve not recovered any debris from the three most recent shootdowns.”

But the objects shot over Yukon and the North Slope of Alaska were the size of a small car - which if balloons can even be that small, would be smaller than Nick Symmonds's vaporfly hobby balloon - I don't see how we're worried about a civilian sighting of that

This particular balloon got shot down because it got spotted by civilians, was reported to the NWS, and made news headlines. The military wanted to save some face. That's it. There are probably tons of these things flying around all over the place - China's, ours, etc - but the government has no reason to annouce them, but I imagine that they are all being tracked quite carefully (if they weren't already).

People have been reporting surveillance equipment as UFOs for years. There's a whole ecosystem of books, websites, religions, etc around UFO sightings.

Yeah, you make some really good points. I'm convinced these things are from aliens coming from the far reaches of the galaxy. Maybe another galaxy altogether. Probably just got all tired out after traveling a quarter million light years so they were unable to muster the energy to avoid being shot down.
