Also…there are only 14 women in the final 10000M rankings quota who possess the Olympic standard. I guess all others who compete in Paris are there due to “affirmative action.”
Entertaining. Thought for this year was that both Valby and Touhy were not yet ready for the Olympics. Too many seasoned pros below 14:50 and 31:00 for the college kids to have a chance.
You can't do much when you are injured, but Touhy must now be kicking herself to see that 15:05 made the Paris team.
Congrats to Valby, 2 fine performances. Touhy will be back for the 2025 world trials.
As I posted elsewhere congrats to Parker for running the times and making the team, but with "assistance" from a few of those "seasoned pros" who got injured or chose other events. Tuohy being injured could not take advantage of that so agree somewhere she could be kicking herself.
Unfortunately, injuries can happen in sports. Do you think Monson is also kicking herself? What about all those MLB pitchers that injure their elbows and have TJ surgery?
You either meet the standard or you don’t. Putting an asterisk besides an Olympian is like labeling her as an affirmative action entry. It just doesn’t look that good.
Agreed. The Olympic standard for the Trials was 15:10.00. Therefore, nobody with a qualifying time over 15:10 should have even been allowed to be there. It's like an affirmative action entry for those over 15:10. It just doesn't look good.
Hmm, now who were all those runners with 15:10+ "qualifying" times that were allowed to run ...

well unlike Valby, and maybe Tuohy, the absence of many of the top runners was not opening up an opportunity for a slot for Monson, who, if everyone was healthy and competed, would have been nearly a sure qualifier. But of course, being injured in an Olympic year is tough.

Dude, that race was faster than last year’s USA Championship when Monson and Cranny were in it; the reason for that is largely because Parker Valby was in the race.

so would that not be great for a healthy Monson, Kelati, Cranny, Henes? All of whom with faster prs than Valby. Maybe a healthy Morgan given the time Wayment ran as well. Like I have said, Valby ran well, made the team, but it would have been a lot tougher if everyone was healthy.

….but, but, but…but if frogs had wings they would be able to fly. BUTT’s are part of the fickle sport. Athletes come and go.

which takes us back to the post that started this. "Entertaining. Thought for this year was that both Valby and Touhy were not yet ready for the Olympics. This was an opportunity for a 14:50ish runner to make the team, and Valby did. And in fact, Morgan who could not break 15 due to her injury has made the team. Tuohy probably really regrets the injury ending whatever chance she might have had this year.

It's ironic that Tuohy fans want to discredit Valby but in the process are proving that Tuohy will NEVER have a chance at the Olympics.
This was the weakest year ever, according to Tuohy fans, but she was still 40+ seconds away from making the team. If everyone was healthy Tuohy doesn't even make the Olympic Trials final.

As did a 14:50ish and 30:50ish runner making the team last year, but I don’t seem to recall you putting “but” qualifiers on it back then, as if Valby somehow got “lucky” this year, while Rogers performance last year was just ‘standard fare’.

I am a Tuohy Fan because I am an NC State fan. I don’t discredit Parker Valby at all. She is great for the sport and I enjoy watching her. I like the way she races and turns each race pace honest. Certain posters on here have tried to make it seem like you can’t like one of them without hating the other. That is just plain wrong. They both had their moments in college where they were highly successful. Fans of each should both enjoy the success of their favorite without the negative comments here about the other one.

That's right, because there is no chance many of the other top runners cannot or will not compete in 4 years...oh wait, that is what happened this year!

Except, overwhelmingly so, going back two years or more, Valby has taken a lot more grief from the other side. On top of that, the Tuohy fans on this site seemed to be particularly annoying ‘winners’ when she was the out front, as the target of the grief would be any athlete that challenged Tuohy’s past performances.
