I'm not sure the site has much moderation, and it clearly has no rules against the constant ad-hominem attacks, and the hilariously ludicrous racist and conspiracy theories that are generally filled with insults.
I have been saying for a long time that either by default or that was their plan all along, this site cultures anger and negativity.
Considering the site owners background with parents in politics, and their own political leanings, I'd say that they fully understand the draw of negative campaigning. It angers and frustrates users, but it also draws us in. So I really think that 23 years ago when they put this site together--and negative bombed other sites to bring in posters here--they had that model in mind.
Speaking for myself, I'm appalled almost every time I visit this site, but it's also addicting. Like what stupid sh!t are troll1, troll2...trollxyz going to say. Indeed it's probably just a couple dozen bad apples, but they are prolific (some paid by someone), maybe deranged bad apples with seemingly nothing better to do than talk trash and white supremacy or conspiracy on a running site of all places.
In the early years pros and former top elites were fairly common, but that mostly ended more than 15 years ago when these trolls really took over.
I seriously don't like the people that run this place, but have actually made some very good friends here. My funniest story though was about a dozen years ago there were some posts about an incident of a top college athlete, and another coach mentioned the incident and I let it slip that I'd heard about it. "Where??!" I didn't want to tell the coach but they persisted so I admitted that I saw a thread on Letsrun. Then I had to spend 20 minutes, if not a lifetime, that indeed I view threads on Letsrun. I'm sure they think the lesser of me. And no doubt rightfully so!
