That said, she hit 3,000m at 9:30 and positive split the next 3000 in 10:00-ish. After the first 500m, she should have dialed it back to just maintain her position if she is determined to front run.
There is no way she hit 3,000m at 9:30.
She was at 2830 at 9:13.6. To hit 3,000 in 9:30, she would have had to run 170 meters in 17 seconds (10-second 100-meter pace). But, she was running about 5 meters per second at that point (2:36.9 for the previous 780 meters, and 3:43.8 for the next 1,170 meters). That gives her an estimated 3,000m split much closer to 9:47, leading to splits of 9:47 and 9:43.
Tuohy broke the course record by 30 seconds and you think she could have broken it by 50 seconds? No way. Some of you Touhy fans let your passion override your logic.
I'm with the people who think Tuohy could have won by 20 seconds had she chosed to do so
That's not even close to being accurate. Tuohy admitted in an interview after the race that she slowed up at the end because she was totally exhausted.

She was exhausted because she hammered a huge negative split with most of that coming in the space of a kilometer and a half; that will trash anyone. I'll give you that winning by 20 seconds might be stretching it but had she run even pace her margin would have been significantly larger.
I think it would have been wider if she had gone with Valby earlier and just drafted off her, but there are pros and cons to that approach. Tuohy tends to be humble in interviews, but she was not exhausted at the end at all. Not saying it was not a tough race, but exhausted is 2019 NXN.
She often seemed “lost” and picked inefficient lines. Touhy seemed textbook and she ran her down
Not true!
I think Parker probably ran one of the shortest path of all competitors in the top 50.
Watch the race and compare Parker’s path to the rest of the pack.
Her only mistake was on the turn after the uphill when she started to lead the race…tricky since it’s an uphill turn to the right and turns back around to the left after- harder to see the tangent. Before 2k, she had one of the shortest paths to the uphill.
Tuohy likely ran a longer path from 1k to the finish. Why? Tuohy was leading in the middle of the pack and could not run tangents as she had runners on both sides. Parker on the other hand could hug a little closer on the turns.
Parker did a good job on the tangents from 2k to the finish and likely ran the shorter path compared to Tuohy…. however, Tuohy did run the shortest path in the last k but not that significant- she cut the left turn up the hill a bit better then Parker and just before the pass, her cut on right turn.
If you want to confirm the above, rewatch the race or trace on the course map.
Im sure you can get a good estimate based on the race footage….it’ true what they said (~7 mins of the race )when you’re leading the race, you’re better able to cut the tangents… which I think Parker did….not the absolute shortest but likely shorter than anyone else in the top 50.
She lost because she wasn’t the best, it’s as simple as that. No need for lame excuses
Those are not excuses. It’s called race analysis knucklehead. She was not the best today because she made some crucial errors and against a talent like KT, tactical errors are unforgiving.
I just watched the entire race. If Valby wants to win against top tier talent in the future she has to get her tangents and corners sorted. She truly was terrible in this regard.

He got 9:30 from the running clock on the broadcast. Why that is so discrepant from the chip timing is the question.
It seems like she thought that she thought the course was about to veer right and was trying to run the tangent. The second she realizes its a pretty tight left she cuts back in with the pack. That was right when she was making her break and It looks like it cost her a good 3-4 meters on the field.
That was very odd. Almost as if she was doing a road race and coming up to a junction and not sure which way to go until some gave a direction, but here there is only one option. It's almost as if she's so focused on running that she is a zone where she effectly so inner aware that her broader focus has gone AWOL...
failed the tangents miserably and in a post race interview even said when Touhy passed her she thought she "still had 1/2 mile to go" when the finish was 200m away. Then complained her feet were frozen numb because she wore "no socks"... As a hs coach these are mistakes made by our beginners, not for a college runner let alone someone who was a favorite to win. Seems a bit aloof...Coach needs to go over these basics with her.
She was following the cart. She said so herself. The cart took that turn wide to get a good camera angle and she followed it until she realized it was turning. If you watch the broadcast again and pay attention, she always follows the cart even if it is on an inefficient path.
