The government wastes almost every dollar it steals from the people. It makes no sense at all to vote Democrat unless you're one of the 50% of Americans who pay zero income tax and don't have any skin in the game.
You should definitely push this argument as aggressively as you can for the next two years.
Make sure you let everyone know you want get government out of healthcare, and turn it over to the market and private industry’s “efficiency”. You should also do the same for Social Security. Tell people they’re better off letting Wall Street give them private accounts. I’m sure it’ll continue to resonate and result in major rewards come election time.
FYI… everyone’s favorite billionaires don’t pay income tax. Not only that… they don’t pay payroll taxes either. They only pay <14% in capital gains taxes. Meanwhile, you’ve convinced yourself you think independently while posting anonymously on a running message board.
The bit you're missing is that over regulation and too much government involvement is just as bad as an unchecked free market.
Social Security is a Ponzi scheme. There are a million more effective ways to provide a safety net than government stealing people's money and wasting it. If you aren't already retired you will be getting less than your fell benefit because the government wasted all of the money.
You're parroting the AOC line that rich people don't pay taxes while accusing others of not being able to think independently. LOL!!!!!
Jesus F'ing Christ people like you are ridiculous.
Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk paid more taxes in the last 3 minutes than you will ever pay in your life.
The big note is we are now being sold the story that the Dems may keep the House.
GA vote now meaningless
I’m confident in Georgians to bring it home for Warnock. The prospect of having Herschel Walker as our senator is just too ridiculous. Also Carmine, why do you never answer my questions about your political leanings? You seem to support the Republicans even though you’ve expressed support for certain far left type ideologies before. You’ve sounded like a Bernie bro in the past, so why support the Republicans?
How is letting someone keep their own money an entitlement??
60 cents of every dollar the government spends is spent on entitlements created by Democrats.
Even if we pretend that 100% of all other spending is purely Republican pork the Democrats are still responsible for 60% of the debt.
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
Democrats push for a lot of things that "feel" good but they never think ANYTHING through.
Healthcare is currently unaffordable because Democrats injected the government into the system. The answer is NEVER more government.
.
So health care was not increasing prior to the Affordable Care Act? Where I live it was increasing astronomically. States that expanded it (blue) prospered and costs leveled. States (red) that didn't expand, has had significantly rising costs. McConnell pleaded states to not expand so that the GOP could claim it was govt. intervention pushing costs. He said this publicly.
Far too many people just accept what their party says and parrots it without any thought or education what-so-ever.
What has the GOP done for you?
The GOP did not mandate vaccines and lockdowns. Did not accuse us of killing grandm if we refused the jab
Some in the GOP do not support $100 billion for Ukraine while so many Americans suffer.

You have problem with Walker but not Fetterman?
When did I ever support the GOP?
You just seem to be rooting for the Republicans. Is that not the case?

Please make sure to let as many people as possible know this is the Republican Party platform for the next election. LRC message boards don’t have a wide enough readership. Spread the word please. It sounds like a very compelling argument that needs more exposure. The GOP hasn’t had an official party platform, so they could use the help getting their message across.

No politicians will touch your entitlements with a 10 foot pole. It's political suicide to try to take the free goodies away from the mob.
This is the best reason not to vote for Democrats. Democrats ALWAYS try to give away other people's money to buy votes.
We are $31 TRILLION in debt. We don't have any "other people's money" left to give away.
Business friendly people never think it’s good to bail out people simple because they don’t want them to expect the same treatment as the business elite
I get that point. It's still bad policy to forgive student loans, ESPECIALLY in times when jobs are so plentiful. Those students took out the loans. They did not HAVE to. I know some people are against it because they say it's "not fair." I don't care about fairness. Just not a good idea to forgive loans that people took out. It's also targeting the smarter and more elite among us. I submit that a waitress could use $10,000 to pay off any loans (credit cards, etc.) that she may have taken out.
Your comment shows how little understanding you have for st loan forgiveness. Businesses that get bailed out did not HAVE to go into business. anyway, that waitress has 20k in student loans and couldn’t get a job in her major. The bailout doesn’t really mean anything to the elite who got jobs in their fields. How out of step are you to not understand that MOST that need the forgiveness are working retail or in restaurants because their 50k education didn’t deliver any jobs. Jobs plentyful yes, 15 dollar an hour jobs that don’t ask for a degree.
You just seem to be rooting for the Republicans. Is that not the case?
Not the case.
This is not a sports event.
I don't root.
It doesn’t have to be a sporting event for rooting to occur. Everyone roots for something. You were rooting against Fetterman. You are disappointed that Oz lost. Or so it appears.

What has the GOP done for you?
Medicare was already inflating costs long before ACA came along.
Would you eat at a restaurant if there were no prices on the menu? Even worse than that if you ask what your meal costs the restaurant would have no idea.
You say abortion should be solely between a woman and her doctor but you're happy with knee surgery being between a patient, health insurance, lobbyists, and then the doctor.
I'm not a republican. The main role of the parties to me is preventing the other party from doing crazy things. Since 2008 the crazy party has been predominantly the Democrats.
Preventing the Democrats from ruining the country with more of their poorly thought out disastrous policies is more than enough reason to vote GoP.
You are all over the place. ACA is reason for health care rising, now it is not. Do you not think privatization of health care does not drive costs, need, etc.?
What "crazy" things have been promoted? Working wages? Affordable health care? Increased veteran benefits? These and many others for regular people have been voted down by the GOP. But they did give a $trillion+ tax break to the richest 1%. Now which is crazy? What is the disastrous policy?
And what is the current GOP policy? What have they done for you?
I have not always voted Dem in my lifetime, but in the current climate there really is no choice.

Bailouts are bad even if they go to you.
Taking other people's money and giving it to someone else is theft.

Nah...I have complete understanding. Two wrongs don't make a right. And you are wrong about available jobs for college graduates. TONS of them available. Best job market for college graduates in my lifetime and even before that.
It doesn’t have to be a sporting event for rooting to occur. Everyone roots for something. You were rooting against Fetterman. You are disappointed that Oz lost. Or so it appears.
I was pointing out how insane it is that someone as brain damaged as Fetterman can get elected due to the power of the propaganda machine.
We are $31 TRILLION in debt. We don't have any "other people's money" left to give away.
The lion's share was given to the richest 1% in 2017 while raised on the middle class to recoup some. Oh, and PPP "loans" were forgiven with GOP backers (Kushner, DeVos, Prince,...) pushed to the front of the line.
What has the GOP done for average people? What is their platform going forward?

The DEms have the white house and both houses of congress.

I have not read whole thread or the MB much recently so I’ll pick on your comment, but I’m sure can apply to many on both sides. As a ‘former’ runner I still get out there 3/4 times a week and 1/2 times a week at busy times, mostly with the same guy at work. We rarely talk about politics but especially around election time and when significant matters are in the news we do. He’s what I’d call libertarian on the right and I’d call myself center left. What I think is interesting is we debate points, and I think we both see the others point of view, and can understand where they are coming from, but obviously neither of us has changed the others mind. Or not yet. I would contrast this to a group chat about 5 of us from a running team had which was generally quiet most of the year apart from a flurry of activity around NC’s - both xc and track and then when Olympics etc are on. That chat has existed for about 13/14 years with the same 5 folks. About 2/3 years ago one of the participants started talking politics all the time and was very hardline on one side. 2 folks left the chat very quickly, and the entire thing disbanded about 3 months ago and I’m sure no one will pick it up again next week for NC’s. I guess I say this because of your comment about thinking that folks who have a different opinion than you are so dumb. Have you tried to see the other side, or at least put yourselves in shoes of others? My concern is I think there is probably 40% on each side who are almost hardliners which mean presidency, house and senate will flip, but no one ever going to have a working majority where can actually get things done. I guess I’ll just start by seeing if we can change things here - but shouldn’t we refrain from ad hominem attacks at try and debate policy rather think other side is just ‘dumb’. When - obviously smart people voting both ways for various reasons. Have a good one!

I didn't say a word about ACA until you brought it up. Medicare was passed in the 60s by Democrats long before ACA came along. Both are Democrat entitlements. The cost of healthcare has gone up about 1000% since the 1960's. https://www.thebalancemoney.com/causes-of-rising-healthcare-costs-4064878 "A study in Health Affairs co-authored by Princeton University health economist Uwe Reinhardt found that Americans use the same amount of healthcare as residents of other nations. They just pay more for them. For example, U.S. hospital prices are 60% higher than those in other countries. Government efforts to reform healthcare and cut costs raised them instead."
Tax cuts disproportionately benefit the rich because the rich pay a wildly disproportionate share of the taxes. Why is this so confusing for you?? 50% of Americans pay ZERO income tax. ZERO. You cannot get a tax cut if you don't pay any taxes. Virtually NOTHING the Democrats do works. In most cases it actually makes the problem worse. Throwing other people's money at symptoms of problems has never solved a problem in the history of the world.
