All world records 100m to 1500m are very impressive, male and female. A lot of talk of fast surfaces and fast shoes but all records 100m to 1500m, non-barriers are at least 6 seasons old.

They should do more of those mano-a-mano races. Somebody should have put up a million dollars prize money for Bolt vs Rudisha over 400, the week after the London Olympics. Stuff like that would bring the fans back.

Also, the mile—and all distances commonly run, except for maybe the 60m indoors and the 10k or marathon—is arbitrary insofar as energy systems are concerned. The mile does not map onto those systems with any optimization.
I saw Franklin Jacobs break the world indoor High Jump record. He still has the world record for the most height differential. Shorty could jump 59 centimeters over his own height.
