You are correct. Cook broke her record by training only 20 MPW. Some have the talent and some work hard. As a fan, I just want Americans to do well regardless if as a result of hard work or talent.
If all she is running is 20 mpw, then it is something other than talent that explains her sudden progression. At least not the talent that does not come in a bottle.
huh what record?? natalie cook didnt break any of katelyn's record
pls tell me if she has broken any of these
15:37 5000m as a 15 yr old 4:33 mile as a 16 year old
9:47 3200m as a 16 yr old 9:01 3000m as a 17 yr old 8:54 3000m as a 19 yr old
what natalie cook broke at almost 19 years old was jenna hutchins record... tuohy never ran an outdoor 5000m and only ran one track 5000m race in her entire middleschool and hs career

I would like to know the volume and intensity of the other training she is doing, whether it is elliptical, swimming, or whatever. I suspect it is high.
its so funny how people think all natalie cook do is 20 miles per week 😂 because its what she decided to tell the public 😂😂
look at her built, no fat at all, all muscle and bones, you dont get muscles from just running 20 miles per week which indicates that she cross trains immensely
Maybe it's one of those secret pro training programs that sees the athlete suddenly shave a minute off their previous established college pbs in a matter of months. Some really vigorous cross-training apparently. :)
running isnt the only thing you can do to get fit and if you do cross train, you are exerting more effort to achieve what running can do to your body but less damage to your knees and ankles
if katelyn decides to run 70-80 miles per week, let her be because its what works for her body ... if natalie cook tries to run katelyn's mileage, she wouldnt last a year
She is training... Both she and her dad (HS Coach) have talked about it in articles. One article mentioned 20 mpw + long elliptical sessions every day, including on running days after run.
You are correct. Cook can't handle high mileage. Her talent is enough to get her some titles without training.
natalie cook's talent, age advantage (3 years) and shoe advancement (10-15 seconds faster) wasnt even enough to break 16-year-old katelyn tuohy's 3200m record
I am late to the party. This kid still got it. Unbelievable. I won’t be surprised to see her in many Olympics in the years to come. Some people are born for greatness and I believe she is one of them.
Valby and McCabe are the two relevant unknowns, but after Tuohy’s ND performance, I wonder if something like Ingebrigtsen’s dominance in the 1500 is emerging in NCAA XC. The Canadian’s tenaciousness and racing brain is, in my view, second to no one in the college ranks, but even if McCabe smokes the middling field Sat in Louisville (which she should), she needs to raise her level even higher than last Fall to challenge Tuohy in Stillwater. Regardless of how Nats plays out, everyone on this thread should be happy next Summer when both athletes make national teams for WC 2023. Early days, still.
Something like Ingebrigtsen's dominance in the 1500? So losing the most important meet?
Tactical mistakes can slay anyone on the day. Maybe the point is that both Tuohy and Jakob, in current fitness and racing clean, are capable of straight-up outrunning all competitors.
I think this course and location can be affected by the weather a lot. It is often windy and wet. I don't think anyone would say it is a fast course, yet 19:19 is a fast 6K. Maybe weather that day was perfect and Allie and Mollie had a great race.

Here is the 2015 men's race and one can see the conditions were pretty good.
