I find it funny that for a 3k an 11 year old got 10:28 (in XC!!) and his coach told us he didn't cut! Well, I wasn't going to make a fuss about it but this just proves my point. We love 5:15 miles for em who obviously didn't cheat ;). Looks like we've got another Tuohy on our hands...
Ryan Tuohy came second in the Section 1 championships today. He won that race as a freshman a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, he did not progress very much in the past couple of years. However, the North Rockland team did. Their #3 to #7 have progressed substantially in the past couple of years. So much do that they completely destroyed the Competition today. Their top 5 were all in the top 20 in the merge and their #6 and #7 were not far behind.

Honestly, there are lots of boys teams that can make NXN this year.
States will give us a better idea, because NR will be racing Ithaca, Colonie, MW, Ward Melville, Auburn, and some other good class A teams.
Xavier and Saratoga are other teams to not count out.
Xavier is not in Class A, but a very deep team.
Saratoga didn’t make states but got 3 individuals there. They will have an opportunity for a revenge at feds.

8th grade - 18:25.8
9th grade - 16:38.6
10th grade - 16:58.3
11th grade - 16:15.6
NR #3 guy ran 16:52 (faster than what Ryan ran last year), #4 (a Soph) ran 17:04 (only 6s slower than Ryan last year) and their #5 ran 17:21, with #6 only 5s behind.

After this weekend wouldn’t you say that Colonie is #1 with NR a close second?
Colonie #2 is not as strong as NR#2, but their #4 and #5 are quite strong. A strong #4 and 5 will always compensate for a weaker #2
Sectionals are through, and States are on the horizon. To get a better view of the landscape, we took all the Speed Ratings from each of the Sectionals, and me

It would appear NR ran a stealth season, looking to show up only late for states and NXR. Smart if it works out as it have 3, 4 and 5 a chance to develop and kept everyone fresh.

Today at the state meet, North Rockland did take second.
And look who took first. Monroe Woodbury! They struggled at the beginning of season but they crushed it at the state meet. Now that’s peaking at the right time. I think this might be their first ever state title. Last year they lost in the tiebreaker in class A, although they won the overall NYSPHSAA merge and NXR. What a redemption from that.
Both teams should be able to autoqualify for NXR if they keep it up.
