Why not blame Obama or Clinton? Both could've passed laws codifying Roe v Wade when pres with both houses, they preferred to play with fire to sit on the fence and scare their base. It's on them as much as Trump.

I'm sure the red states that don't allow abortion will have no problem coughing up the extra hundred million $ or so, per year, for the new welfare, AFDC, and unemployment claims from unwed mothers that will result in their state. Of course, it will increase every year while a new year's batch of unwed mothers file claims. It should level off at some billions of never-ending new state expenses after 20 years or so.
I don't really know much about the healthcare costs that will be incurred, but I would imagine unwed mothers (who tend to be poor) will end up at the county hospital needing care they can't pay for. The average pregnancy cost is roughly $13,000, more for pre and post natal, so another 5,000 of those a year for your state is only $65,000,000 for the government to cough up.
That's such a small price to pay! You did plan on your state income taxes going up to pay for all this, right? Maybe the federal government will bail you out (that is, the blue states.)
But your state can always budget for some new law enforcement to go after deadbeat dads more seriously. Otherwise the cost to the state budget will be rather alarming. Oh, wait, more law enforcement costs tax dollars.
How about bringing back "shotgun weddings"? I always thought those were cute in the cartoons when I was a kid! If dad won't hold the shotgun, maybe the police will do it for him? A court order to get married might work!
You "pro-lifers" did have a plan for all of these expenses, right? Unwed mothers are only assumed to cost the government at least $112 billion nationwide in 2008. You want another few hundred thousand pregnancies and babies a year, with an unwilling parent, most of them young and broke-- so you have a realistic plan for making sure they and their mothers are well taken care of, right? I want to hear it!
While we're taking control of people's bodies, how about mandatory DNA databases for all men in order to find dad, and mandatory vasectomies for deadbeat dads? That should help!

Time for the democrats with the help of Collins and Murkowski to end the filibuster and pass legislation enshrining access to abortion. Next step is to make abortion rights the foundational issue for the mid terms and hope this moves the needle to have the senate majority continue. This is the only hope to preserve this right. If the Republicans gain control of congress, you can bet they will do the same, end the filibuster, and ban abortion at the Federal level. State by state protections are in grave jeopardy. There is no reason to trust McConnell and his claim that he will continue the filibuster.

Correct. Young adults ages 18-29 support legal abortion 74% to 25%. For ages 30-49, support is 62% to 37%. 84% of people between 18-35 support gay marriage. Support for legal contraception is surely close to 99%.
Republicans cannot afford to leave these issues to the states. A significant majority of the people responsible for the lion's share of economic productivity in this country do not want to live in Christofascist states. Businesses will avoid Republican states if they know they will have a hard time attracting a competent workforce. The only way to avoid this is to level the playing field by dragging ALL of the states back into the 18th century.

You might see a downturn at the University of Arkansas, University of Alabama, University of Florida, Florida State.
Already happening. My daughter is writing both Alabama and A & M to inform them that she is no longer considering their institutions. Both recruited her for long sprints/multis. Looking solely at Pac-12 schools in CA, WA, and OR now.

you don't realize how many women and girls have sought and needed abortions. They are women you know. They can be your daughters and nieces. I know you think that won't happen to the women in your circle but I promise, you don't know everything about the women in your circles, and it happens to them.

The filibuster isn't real. The fact of the matter is that Democrats could pass a law that codifies Roe v Wade today. Everybody knows it. The only thing stopping them is that a handful of the people in their own party refuse to do it, even though we all know that Republicans, who have proven one thousand times over that they have ZERO respect for "institutional norms," will happily override the filibuster if it suits them in the future.
The Democrats' refusal to put as much public pressure on the Manchinema moles as possible is their biggest failing. Appeasement has clearly not worked. It is long past time to call their bluff. They need to be told to toe the line or be stripped of off all their committee assignments and DNC fundraising. Let them try to survive as Independents or Republicans in the M.A.G.A. party. My wife went to her OBGYN after the Roe opinion leaked. She asked about getting her tubes tied in case TX bans birth control. Her OBGYN said that since the Roe opinion leaked, they have been scheduling tubal ligations nonstop. I think we are going to see a very big increase in the number of women opting for sterilization at a young age because the prospect of going through child birth without the option of having an abortion if there are complications and the prospect of having to go out of state to find an abortion provider for an unwanted pregnancy are going to cause a lot of when to just say to hell with having kids and opt out permanently from having a family.
