SUB-4 MINUTE MILE ATTEMPT....DOWNHILL!!!

Mental, downhill, running behind an SUV which breaks the wind at times...all those things are the reason why this isn't anything legit. And that's fine, it is what it is. It's awesome.

As far as running uphill goes, I think the time added would definitely be more than the time lost for running downhill.

Running into a 20mph headwind is going to hurt you more than running with a 20mph tailwind will help.

i can't get the track mile to seem to play....anyone have this problem?

1) "I did it for the muffins," refers to the chocolate muffins that Costco sells in 12 packs. We used to get them for our apartment whenever we went grocery shopping, and when we did I usually ended up eating more than half of them after day 2. I don't know, they're like crack or something. Anyway, one day when I ate three in an hour or something, my roommates (who are a bit more nutritionally conscious than I) banned me from eating them, and said that the next time I win a race that we would all buy them again. I agreed because although I love those damn muffins, they weren't really the best thing for me to be eating every day. After this "rehab," I am happy to say that I've been clean for about two months now, and don't really have cravings for the muffings anymore. Next addiction to conquer: blow. So basically, it's kind of an inside joke.

2) There is NO WAY ON THIS EARTH you could get me to race an uphill mile (unless you dared me ofcourse). That'd be hard as hell. Although I consider myself a decent hill runner, I think that'd just be a terrible idea. Not to mention the fact that the grade gets steeper the higher up you go. I think I could MAYBE break 5minutes.

3) I think that if I was about to race a downhill mile only to find out that it was flat, come race time, I'd be shitting my race shorts. This would be because a) it'd be a lot harder than originally thought b)any thought of breaking 4minutes would be lost. But yeah, I would not want to be put in that situation. A better experiment would be to have somebody race a downhill mile, and then do a regular mile after a few days and see if it's easier. I would have attempted this, but nobody wanted to pace me because everybody had finals.

4)If the track 1600 doesn't work, did you try it on google video? That one loads up much faster.

Thanks a lot for everyone's support. I still might try to run another regular mile, but that's looking kinda bleak due to the fact that I haven't done a run since that mile. Which reminds me, I should probably just get me ass outside right now and get today's done with. I'll keep you all updated.

I watched the 4:04 video and noticed you ran 4:06. The video length was 4:17 and at :11 into it you took off. The video ends as you cross the finish, and if you say the camera is the exact finish, I think that means you ran 4:06. Anyone else notice this guy gave himself 2 extra seconds. LIAR

you cant exactly time a race through video.

Haha, yeah I thought that too at first. But use a stop watch and you'll see the difference.

Just curious, you are obviously in great shape. What have you been doing to get this fit? Also, why would you get this fit and then all of the sudden stop training?

i knew instantly that you were talking about costco muffins. i like the carmel iced ones; they must have like a thousand calories a piece. great way to negate any run.

do you go to cal? were any of the mcclary brothers involved in this? i would think they would eat this stuff up.

No, Cal has two of them. One runs fast in real races, the other is good at stupid challenges (although not as good as his fat roomate)
