I actually agree. I just wanted to discuss Kendrick Lamar's new single and video, but the thread got hijacked by a couple of old foggies who don't think hip hop is music. They couldn't skip the thread?
So you wanted blind agreement regarding your bad taste in music?
Careful you guys, that's racism and ageism and I happen to resemble both. I saw Kendrick Lamar and Sza in Vancouver. In advance, I made sure that I listen to about a dozen of his songs, not just Alright and Humble.
As a bit of a wordsmith, attempted poet, etc etc, I like the urban poetry. Rap is indeed a skill, but there is more to it that is nuanced. Listening to Kendrick is not listening to Eminem, JayZee, or the fun '90s rappers....
It's music, but not in the traditional sense. There is music. He uses live musicians. Robert Plant (can play guitar a bit) but never did on any Led Zeppelin album. Jim Morrison was hopeless on bass, when they tried to teach him....Taylor Swift plays several instruments, but a guy's guy won't admit to listening to her, but will listen to the Hammer of the Gods and the Doors.
Do we know who Joni Mitchell is, kids?
I don't love sampling when it is always done because the rapper/hip hop artist can't write music, but in some cases it works like Kanye's Goldigger....love that one....
Anyway, if Madonna can be a near billionaire and can't flip light switches....give a lyricist a break. Everyone is cool with beat poets of the 1960s.....It's not a stretch from that at all.
Also I am learning Creedence songs on guitar. They are not that complicated, just good Melodie’s. I saw Fogerty live a few years ago….also a great show
Exactly. Plus, Kendrick has literally ridiculed fans onstage for singing along with him and using the word. He’s a clown
What we have here is a bunch of people who don't get the influense these rappers have over the young people they can't be talking guns and N and F this and F that, and they don't know that? Have some class Kendrick don't look like some know nothing thug be responsible.
I can see you get it.
I agree! I can't believe that someone is talking about guns when they know the youth are going to be listening to it. This is from an older song but some dude name John Lennon wrote the lyrics
Happiness is a warm gun (Bang, Bang, Shoot, Shoot)
Nothing happy has ever come from a gun! We need to make sure the youth do not hear this thug's music.

You like pop. Nothing to be ashamed of but your musical taste is more in line with the girls in my 7th grade class.
I didn’t tell you who my favourite artists are. So grade 7 girls like The Beatles. Zep, Doors, RHCP, CCR, Van Halen and jazz fusion and contemporary jazz…. Grusen Rittenhauer, Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck, Yellow Jackets, Louie Armstrong….how about Prince, Floyd, Stones, Nora Jones, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Buckethead, The Band, The Who, Nat King Cole, Stevie Wonder….
no, I didn’t mention them, so you wouldn’t know….nothing wrong with Ga Ga, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell….or how about Willie Nelson, Allan Parsons, Pearl Jam….and on and on…
