Florida is practicing Orwellian thought control. You know that the government surveyed university students and employees as to whether they were conservative or liberal (no other option--moderate appeared in one other question), etc.? They're also making sure they can survey every single syllabus in the university system in advance, approve or disapprove, in case they don't like what's being taught. How is this not Orwellian?
Florida is also setting up a new 'Office of Election Crimes'. DeSantis wants 52 people to work on the 262 complaints of election fraud that are recorded each year. Why the existing police can't do it is unknown.
The people usually citing Orwell are strangely quiet about a taskforce with lots of time on their hands investigating whether your vote was correct.
The only Florida voter fraud cases I can think of were elderly Trump voters in the Villages who were voting for him multiple times. So, the OEC is really an office dedicated to undermining any possible democratic win in the state, in case that happens, or even more likely, an office that will prosecute get out the vote organizations for offering water at the polls on a 90 degree day where there are long lines in "Democratic" parts of the state where there are too few polling places, or for registering voters just in case all the new paperwork requirements are not met. Add to this that the governor wanted his own militia, answerable to him alone.
Five pages in. Has there been a single plausible example in a math textbook submitted for use in Florida schools?
Appeal to ignorance. Which posters have had the opportunity to read through all the textbooks in question?
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
Math was invented by people of color (Middle Eastern and Hindu) and gays (Greeks) anyhow so what's the big deal with wokifying it. Not a white thing.
That's an astonishing misuse of a logical fallacy. Since when was requesting proof of an argument a logical fallacy? To request relevant evidence is precisely the right demand on a claim that is not necessarily true. And then you can ask yourself this psychological-political question: why don't they offer evidence if they have it? What are the probabilities here? Is it because they are excluding books for other reasons entirely? Is it because the state is excluding textbooks merely for political reasons? Are they financially connected to the winning companies? Examples should be ready to hand since they just reviewed the books and excluded so many for reasons they have not supported in any way.

Since not receiving proof is used to claim no proof exists, i.e. "5 pages in and still no proof."
"It's been one day and Desantis still hasn't provided proof! HE MUST BE LYING AND RACIST" -Rabid, angry liberal frenzy logic.
If a bunch of books were going to be pulled for whatever reason, somebody making that decision should be able to provide some examples of why the decision was made. This isn't a one day decision in which the fine folks making said decision wouldn't have realized a question as to why might come up.

The whole thing political thing is divide and conquer. It may have not been planned that way but that's what. Dupes all over this thread.
We have a local incumbent running for a board of supervisors position in my big city. He sent out his campaign donor email with claims that his constituents had to help him defeat a far right-wing threat. The other candidate doesn't fit the bill at all. I wonder if he even understands that's the same thing as his detractors labeling him a commie?
Mentioning race is NOT CRT. A simple google search will show you what CRT is.
I could see CRT being taught as a part of a civil-rights/African studies ELECTIVE.
I see very few HS teachers or students really diving into CRT. It's just one way to explain perceived racial bias.

The CRT issue is one of a number of current GOP "issues" providing solutions in search of problems.
Feels like rinse-repeat of pearl clutching hysteria. They've already moved on from CRT to 'grooming' in schools. When people tire of that they'll start freaking out about something else.

Oh? Is the attempt to re-center the study of US history on 1619 (according to the1619 Project) also a canard?
1619 seems like an pretty important date for American history. Seems like it should be appropriately studied.
But lol. As soon as I post there's someone else coming in with a pearl-clutching hysteria topic that I forgot.
You literally can't keep up with the conservative hysterics. Every week they claim the libs are rolling out another devious plot that threatens all of Western civilization.

PLEASE keep telling parents they're stupid and have no right to decide when and what their kids should learn.
