Katelyn Tuohy 5000m Prediction - What will her 5000 pb at the end of the season?

you keep repeating about 20mpw as if thats a proven fact, nobody knows how many miles she really runs.. im pretty sure they wanted to say that so she doesnt get the SHE WILL BURNOUT comments

also, theres pros and cons of light mileage.. lets see how she will adapt when college asks her to do 40-60 mpw

Huh? I don't want anyone to fail. But I am a realist. The runners I tend to have faith in over the long haul are the ones that show the ability to run at a high level year after year. So I thought that Chmiel and Tuohy would be really good NCAA runners on that basis, and they are. But who knows. I bring up age only bc we are talking about an age group record.

Just let it go semi - they are just trying to get under your skin (and are succeeding it seems)....anyone with a brain knows Tuohy has not tried to pr in a 5000 in 4 years.

What’s odd is that Cook seems to be reaching her potential. An undertrained runner will have a steeper slope when comparing times ranging from 1600m to 5000m but Cook’s are the same as for a serious runner maybe doing 60mph. She said she does elliptical for 30 minutes on running days and 60 for the 2 days she doesn’t. Maybe the elliptical plus 15-20 miles of mostly intervals and tempo runs is just as effective as low mileage and rock climbing.

Yep it is interesting. Especially when talking about a runner who has been competing for a while. I recall her running in the second section in 2019 at New Balance and then next year running 10:16 at Music City in the 3200 race where Hutchins ran 9:49. I guess cross training is really effective. Maybe that KT training video was really helpful.

I don't like Semihaze questioning the honesty of a high school runner and her coach and father. She seems very humble and has answered the question so specifically saying that she peaked at 22. If trying to broad brush something, she would just say that she does low mileage and cross trains.

Careful there, I don't think Cook has run a race over 5K yet while Tuohy has so there is no basis for what you said above

You know the basis. A runner who is faster at 5k but slower at 800 doesn't become slower at longer distance.

XC and track are not the same

You are correct. I am talking about track. Tuohy is much stronger and better at XC. Cook is more suited to the track.

Maybe I've missed this but why are you so hellbent on defending KT? You seem to be taking it very personally when anyone so much as mentions Natalie Cook's name. Frankly I find it to be weird and obsessive behavior unless you are a close friend or relative of KT, and even then it's a bit much.

But Cook has run a faster 5K in XC than Tuohy, no? So, Cook must be, in your words, "superior" in XC? I mean, really, be consistent.
