They put out a tweet that said the academy doesn't condone violence. Of course this will certainly help their ratings, but the backlash would be severe if it comes out they staged the act for ratings
What is with you people thinking this was staged? It was not. Man, I can see why so many of you believe in conspiracy theories. Stop it. This was NOT staged.
If my wife were struggling with a medical condition and someone on stage in front of the world were making fun of it, I would also have a problem with that. Someone mentioned that Rock and Smith have a history, so that may have contributed.
Rock has 6 months to change his mind and file charges.
He likely will not. Makes him the bigger man by far to take it like that and not be anything other than stunned that it happened. It appeared to not even hurt, and Chris Rock can talk about how it didn't the rest of his life and everyone will believe it. Makes that f*cker Will Smith look even worse. F*ck Will Smith.

People are stupid. We should all know this by now.
Chris may have made other jokes or remarks about Jada in the past that weren't so tame. I think we know what they would be about. Just speculation of course.

Does she even have it? Ayanna Pressley has it and she's bald as a stone. Smith shaves her head.
All of the Smith's are insane. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she's just lying for attention.
Give me a break. That is BS. Comedians make jokes. There is no joke he could have made that should warrant being punched. Will Smith should be prosecuted for that.
At that, his wife has cheated multiple times on him, and made him look like a fool publicly. From a psychological perspective, maybe all the angst and the desire to seem like a desirable man came to the fore? Subconsciously, he’s trying to prove to not just his wife, but also himself that he’s a worthy mate.
Why do you people keep saying this? They famously have an OPEN MARRIAGE. She didn't cheat on him. She bumped uglies with other guys as their agreement allows. He's reportedly had sex with a lot of women during their marriage. I don't even follow celebrity news and I know this.
That was just an example of privilege...WEALTH privilege in this case. He should have been escorted out. F*ck Will Smith.
If it had been a white conservative actor like James Woods or Kid Rock who sucker slapped Chris Rock, you think thinks things might have turned out differently?
I don't deal in what-ifs. Will Smith smacked Chris Rock over a joke. He was allowed to stay because they are in a privilege bubble there. It MIGHT have been different if he hadn't been nominated for something that was yet to be announced. I'm not going to go down your racist-fueled question though. Shame on you for asking it. You need to work on yourself.

California may be different but most states do not require a victim to press charges to prosecute a crime. Typically they won’t pursue simple assault & battery without the victim pressing charges because the juice isn’t worth the squeeze for the DA. Also, in most A&B, the main witness is the victim and if they aren’t cooperating in prosecution, what’s the point?
Here, they have the crime on tape with literally hundreds of live witnesses. If LA County DA doesn’t prosecute Will Smith, it’s purely because they don’t want to. It has literally nothing to do with Chris Rock. If they choose not to take any action, I hope there are fistfights at every Hollywood event from now on because LA County (or Orange or whatever county the Oscars are held in) has decided they just don’t care about enforcing A&B laws when it’s two celebrities involved.
Oh...SOOOO close to finally being right about something. You were right before and got my seal of approval. Now, you've jumped back onto the side of wrong. Shame.
"So he did what he did?" Assault is not acceptable. WTF is wrong with you?
Battery not assault. I thought you knew everything?
Battery is just the legal term.
as·sault /əˈsôlt/ verb make a physical attack on. "he pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer"
So, in casual conversation about what Will Smith did, it is wholly acceptable to say he assaulted him.
smiths wife has a medical condition , not sure if cancer or something else , but is bald. rock made a "she should be in go jane " movie.
Not cancer. She just has hair loss that some women have. Absolutely NO reason for Will Smith to hit Chris Rock over that. If he wanted to rip him later verbally, then fine, but nope, not that. Not cool. F*ck Will Smith.
What happened to the 'real man' of Letsrun?
So you would let someone make fun of your wives medical condition or appearance and done nothing..

No. Assault is putting someone in reasonable fear of immediate harm. Battery is actually causing the harm. You can assault someone without touching them, but there must be physical contact for battery. Unless victim is unconscious, there’s usually an assault before the battery.

Assault is threatening a person. Battery is when you actually hit that person.
