Is there a man on this earth that can have 10.5 100m speed and 13:30 5K endurance?

It is impossible. Both 13:30 and 10.50 FAT are fast, in their respective disciplines. Again, I suggest that you take a look at how sub-10.5 decathletes perform in the 1500, to get just some idea of how ludicrous this suggestion is. A riot, actually.

Korir's 44.2 puts him in the maybe possibly 10.5 category, but he is running the 400m from speed endurance (1:42 man). The 100m is a different beast.

No way does any speed based 800 runner get close to 13:30 it's just not possible. Likewise nobody who has run 13:30 would have the fast twitch fibres to go 10.5.

Sub 11 and sub 14 is a better question, and still very tough to find a candidate.

10.5 and 13:30 is a flat no for anyone who has ever lived.

You keep discussing 10.5 and 13:30. I am not arguing with you about that. I never said one could do both. But many could do 13:30 and sub 13 and you appeared to, rather ignorantly, contend that this was quite an aberrant combo, as you asserted that very few could do both. This is false and I have schooled you whether it takes root in your ostensibly thick noggin or not.

I love Bekele. When he talks about an 11-second 100m, he is talking out his azz, because he is talking about a flying 100m. And even then, he's not sure.

In the real world of 100m, that means 11.80-12.20--and that's still SMOKING fast for one of these guys, which is why he was likely one of the very fastest.

I always feel like I am discussing these things with people who have never tried them, and therefore have no appreciation of what it takes--either the 100m, or the 5k. There is only a handful of guys in the world like me, who have gone sub-10.5, who actually have tried their hand at 5k, and who enjoy training distance. Btw I was nowhere near as fast over distance when I was fast at sprints. They are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. And 10.5 FAT is a fast sprint.

Know what? 11.00 FAT is a fast sprint, that would blow the doors off any sub-13:30 athlete.

Go out and do a FAT 100m, and we'll talk.

So now we get to the crux of the matter. Geezer you were a sub 10.5 guy who maybe could run 16 minutes for 5000m? Well this is personal for you and explains your lack of objectivity. You see pretty much any male runner who has run 13:30 and 1:48 or faster could break 13 for 100m. That is a lot of people. All of this talk about 10.5 for a 13:30 guy is absurd but sub 13 is very doable for many 13:30 runners.

You may be right. There are almost 8,000 guys listed at sub-13:30. I was being slightly hyperbolic. But only slightly.

Sorry, there are almost 8,000 performances, not performers, which weakens the possibility. Anybody know how many 13:30 performers there have been in history?

Well you see this is not that important. To sum up the thread: very likely nobody in history has had the ability to run 10.5 and 13:30.

Now in relation to 13:30 and sub 13 for 100m we now have many individuals, and certainly anyone who had 1:48 with 13:30, which might be only 10% of 13:30 runners, but this is not so aberrant as to make it like discovering a unicorn. We are speculating of course but it might be termed educated speculation.
