Yes, I'd like to see the stats on that. Makes perfect sense, of course. I know what I would do if I was elite, but was not feeling perfect.......likely at 15 miles.
yeah, the fact that so many of them dropped near the end doesn't make sense. Why go that far into the race? I guess they still thought they could get a good finish and then really hit the wall with the weather.
It's was a historically weird day for a marathon. I ran my first marathon in 1969 in rain and snow and had hypothermia so bad and shaking so much at mile 22 that I couldn't run. As far as the elites running in Boston today, it was a freakish day and no judgments should be made on those that crashed and dropped out. If you've ever been seriously hypothermic, you'd understand.
The medical people on the course and at the finish are going to have their hands full with hurting people. A space blanket isn't much help when your core body temp has crashed.
this explains it... wrote:
Oh, I get it you're an idiot. Now your comments make sense. Because a marathon and track or cross country are the same thing in cold weather. Just so stupid. Stop posting, fool.
They're not, that is true. And before I continue I want to say that I also know that cycling is not running. But cyclicsts don't shoot the bed when the weather gets gross, not to the point where they'd get beat by sub-elites. And many of them train in sunny, warm places as often as they can.
All I'm really saying is that I was surprised at how poorly the elites handled the weather today.

I would try to argue this: in reading it verbatim it says "who choose" --- Jess wasn't given the choice. You cannot choose something if you were never given the option

+1
And it isn't just today, after Berlin everyone was talking about the "terrible" weather. Kipsang and Bekele couldn't handle a chill day with a drizzle.

If this had been on a track, he would have been lapped.
That was Cox! WTH has he been eating? I thought it was one of he Hansons. I hope she doesn't get fired for the Ritz comment even if it's true. Go Desi!

That is by far the cheapest thing i've heard. I understand their reasoning (to prevent people from cheating) but it's 2018, have they not been able to figure out a foolproof way to prevent cheaters? What a load of commie crap.
I don't think it's really the cheating aspect. Look how slow the elite women went out at since no one wanted to lead or push the pace in the terrible weather. The women in wave 1 had men to draft off of, follow behind and get dragged by the entire way. It makes sense that some women from wave 1 beat the elites. I agree with the decision that prize money should only be from the elite women's start, especially after watching people run in this weather. It's only fair.

It's not to do with cheating. In the mass start you can always treat the race as a time trial. Even the best mass start woman will have dozens of men to pace off and assist in attaining the best TIME they're capable of. The elite race is a race. Sometimes it goes slow sometimes it goes fast, there are surges to cover etc. etc.
Hope this gives her enough profile that she can finally dump the Hansons

There is this thing called "clothes" that has been around for more than 10000 years. Perhaps elite marathoners should use them.
Anybody still concerned about Desi's thunder thighs?

The rule, I’m sure, is about pacing, not cheating.
Starting with the elite women’s field is a competitive disadvantage. That’s why world records are only ratified if there are no male pacers. The women who are at the back end of the elite start usually end up running 90% of the marathon by themselves. The fact that some of them were able to stick it out and win a boatload of money is awesome.
Women in the main field, on the other hand, are in a pack of literally hundreds of runners, male and female, that can at the very least block wind for them. A lot of women who actually have the choice to start in the elite field run in the main corral for this very reason. The pre-race and the start are harder, but once you hit the road it’s kind of nice to be running with people rather than by yourself, especially if you have a time goal.
Agree. I took a dig at him in an earlier post and was too harsh. He is the agent so makes sense he'd want to embrace her. But it was a little too much attention hogging in my opinion during her special moment.

Yes, you're a troll, but I still have to bite and say you take the cake for stupidest person posting

cockxs, I have noticed the same thing about Josh Cox over the years. Arrogant attention seeker.
