The GOP is not serious about solving illegal immigration. It is a culture war election issue only.
The solution to solving immigration is arresting with stiff penalties the CEO's and business owners that are using illegal immigrants. Then immigration would plummet without jobs. But that would mean Trump himself would be responsible and all his buddies.

Where do you get your numbers from? Everything I've read suggests at least a few million fewer.

They aren't serious about anything and the voters have such a strong mental seal that as long as they are fed their hate fix, the heck with their quality of life and America. It's pretty much all fake culture war issues on their side. There isn't a single issue they are thinking pragmatically and substantively about. They never bring solutions to the fake or embellished problems - only trump can fix it all. It's just about creating more reasons for the base to hate the libs so that they can keep grifting and criming without being bothered.
The whole scam is just dropping the bar on everything as low as possible, making people feel absolutely miserable and then offering them a fake shoulder to cry on and promising to fix their problems if they'll just give you their vote. Trump has already taken this game a step further by telling voters he only needs their votes this time. Let that $hit sink in.
Just a tiny example of how bad the brainwashing has gotten. Ted Cruz abandoned Texas for Cancun in the middle of a massive storm that killed hundreds including many children. And they are going to happily vote for him again coz he's great at owning libs.

In the last election (and certainly the one before it), we did not yet know about Trump's criminal behavior described in these two documents:
It's the ignorance of and/or the excuses for (or even celebration of in some cases) that added information from 2020-2023 that makes one think there is now a serious problem with a large segment of Americans -- i.e., I don't think the "massive indictment" label can be fairly applied to the previous two elections.

All for big fines on those who employ illegals. I think it would fix the system. Dems don’t want that either, they want amnesty for the new illegals (3.5x more than entered under Trump thus far) before the election. They care more about power than they do the country.
