Whether the no experience individuals on LetsRun want to admit this or not, this steak is 100% accurate. Many of these young coaches getting jobs do not have experience. Writing down times for a head coach, that you ran for in college is not experience. Recycling the same workouts you did under a coach in college is not building experience. The people defending these hires are the same people that will criticize the same people in 10 years when they aren’t producing at a big school by doing the same thing, they did in college and having no recruiting experience other than selling a lie to the student athletes such as some of the coaches in the NCAA today.

What I question is their definition of winning and does this align with their AD? The sad reality is that only a few schools 'win' and does going to NCAAs in XC really matter to your AD?

Then let's say in Y1 you do go to NCAAs, even make the top-15. How do you keep your top kids when others are swooping in to get them to transfer? Every year you are back to paying a service to bring in more foreign talent and pay for their schooling.

I know of a couple of schools who tried this a bit but soon realized it wasn't worth the effort. They also realized that their team chemistry was horrible.

I spoke to a P4 assistant in June who said he was never recruiting a HS kid again. That's just lazy.

Assume this is just a "grunt" work job. No salary, no event group description....probably already have their person and this is the formality post. Anyone have insight?

What a weird thing to say. I for one wouldn't sit online as a keyboard warrior and sound off about a young kid early in his career who just got hired by a Big 12 school to lead their distance program. Seems like a perfect opportunity for Coach Meyer to thrive and gain valuable experience, as he will have full control over his squads training. Let's see where this program goes in the next few years before we hastily jump to these asinine conclusions.

So the question at ASU is what is role of Milton Mallard who was just hired a week ago also at ASU? 2 800 and up coaches seems odd in Tempe.
