RIP Charlie Kirk. He loved to discuss issues with those who agreed with him AND those who disagreed. He knew that conversation is the true way for people to learn and grow, and perhaps find middle ground. I certainly respect that.

What I've learned from this is just how propagandized the right wing really is. I knew who Kirk was, but I didnt think he was relevant. Like the equivalent of Seth Meyers or something. But everybody on the right is absolutely distraught. He's hugely popular. Apparently, they all tune in to hear him say this sh*t and they all loved him.
The president of the US basically declares war on the entire Democratic party, based entirely on the assumed/fabricated political affiliation of the shooter. And the righties are sound eager to fight...who?? YOU. You Democrat scum. YOU ALL KILLED CHARLIE!
Despite all relevant democrats offering sympathy and decrying political violence, they claim "the left" is attacking them! This is based purely on mean social media reactions by random people. If Trump were to die of a stroke, the inevitable rejoicing on social media might seriously might cause these people to go crazy and start killing at random.

this is based and true. Honestly I'm approaching the point that the left shouldn't disavow violence until Trump disavows violence on both sides. He needs to do it without talking about BLM or Antifa or painting it all on the left. He needs to fully disavow all violence on all sides, and until he does that, I don't know why the left should disavow it.
To anyone who thinks that's insane, why is it insane to ask the president to disavow violence on all sides?
In an ideal world, Trump and the 4 leaders of Congress would stand together and decry all violence and all terminology labelling as or implying the other side or actions/policies thereof as "evil". I put the chances of that happening at basically zero. All they really seem to care about are election results - both their own, and their party's. So they say what they say to try to win, and the consequences are what they are.
What is becoming abundantly clear is this country can no longer function as one nation; there is no reconciling these differences. Two countries, one a religious/authoritarian dictatorship (which I'm guess a WHOLE lot of these pro-Maga/pro-Trump posters wouldn't like any more than I would) and one a country based on secular humanist values. That won't happen peacefully, but it needs to happen. If we aren't in what amounts to a hot civil conflict in the next 12 months I will be very surprised.

Why was this reply downvoted at all? it is absolutely correct regardless of which side of the aisle you fall on.
If this were a relationship, and it is in some respect, it would be grounds for divorce based on irreconcilable differences. If so, where do we go from here? Reminds me of pre-civil war with pro and anti slavery perspectives. Personally, the obsession with right or left - when the saner heads these days are independents - means getting rid (if that were possible) of BOTH parties and starting over again politically and culturally. I fear that it will take a real civil war (not just a culture war) to make the required changes to this country. A complete reset. Winner takes all - but at the expense of millions of lives and nothing to say that other countries won't sweep in to feed on the dead carcass of America.
