Looks like a bad day for Tony Ortega? I haven't followed Knoxville Catholic much this year outside of Adidas Challenge. Is that a one off or has he been inconsistent this year? I was thinking they were a decent favorite for 2nd in the SE before this result
Yeah Ortega is usually between #2-4 on the team, but today he didn’t score so an off day.
McCallie’s Jacobs was #3 on the team in the first race this season and was the #3 nonsenior on the team last year. He didn’t score today. Looks like he missed some meets too
Lots of time to get healthy before NXR
I could see either of these teams make NXN
If McCallie makes NXN it would be a good revenge of last year. Last year at NXR they were in second at the 3.2k mark, but their regular #2 guy fell at some point after that, according to a post in the NXN 2023 thread
as for guys that could potentially finish top 10 on a good day. (predictions before the nxr races)
heartland has - putz, mechura, gonzalez racing this sunday
southeast has - steorts, mantecon, adverson, latham
northwest has - Powell, Tostenson, Cervi Skinner, Boatz
south has - Leonard and Monistere
california has - Caldwell?
southwest has - Evans, Spencer, Anderson, Le Roux, Steadman,
new york has - ?
northeast has - Barrett, Vernon
midwest - hansen, kimmel, bowen,
I dont think he's going to be top 10, but considering the names mentioned i would throw in Kavi Gibson for the SE. 14:42 at Adidas only behind Steorts. I would add the name with an asterisk though that he got 2nd at his small private school state meet so i dont know if hes dealing with injury or sickness or what right now.
Manwaring was farther behind their top 4 than he usually is. What happened to Tripp? He was their 4th man in the summer time trials, and he was missing in this race. He was better at Skyridge last year than he was in the last few races he ran.
American Fork is good at progressing throughout the season, and we could see possibly see them finally take home the national title if they keep getting better and if it all works out.
manwaring sat out the last meet, I wonder if there is more going on behind the scenes with injury
And Tripp who ran in the 15s at the state meet last year and was Herriman’s #4 in the time trials, won the JV state championship
Was there watching this race- these boys tempoed this entire race maybe besides the last mile and didn’t kick it in. Still got the course record, this team is special
