People should look into "Jeff Cunningham" - his methods and single workout weeks are what gets you to the level of floberg, not NSM.
Hate to interrupt the Love/Hate fest...
I'll bite (if this is in fact bait) and ask what the short version of Cunningham's training is? You mention single workout weeks? Is that in addition to a long run with some pace in it? Or legit just one session and the rest mileage (incl. an all-easy long run)?
I don't know specifics (hence my asking in earnest), but I have heard him on a podcast and a couple other short clips, and he sounds halfway normal in how he talks about training from what I heard.
Considering the pressure he was under and all the people queueing up to watch him fail and the fact that he’s almost certainly clean, today from Floberg might be one of the best runs in the sport and I feel privileged that I was alive to witness it

Don't get me wrong I like seeing fast times, but let's not pretend that everyone blew it out of the park today.Yes people ran fast, because they had a downhill course with a tailwin gthe entire way. Subtract at least 2 minute...
multiple thoughts that Boston ran 2min fast today as the tailwind was significant. Obviously not scientific but some fairly decent comments justifying it.
not taking anything away from floberg, he ran the time he ran today and of course he’s gonna use it. he earned it. but it really does seem like 1-2min as a freebie simply due to insanely amazing conditions today. honestly this would line up with floberg running 2:32 flat if he raced ideally - I don’t think anyone pegged him in sub 2:30 shape.
The copium is insane 😂. Love him or hate him, he did it. On an insanely difficult course too. Have some class and admit you were wrong
Despite having virtually zero respect for Floberg as a person, this was a commendable performance. I took a look at his splits and ran the race about as perfectly as he could.
Now, onto scamming patreon members through pseudo coaching.
He did it. I’m shocked but not shook. Credit due for that run. What does it mean moving forward? Probably a higher rate for his “coaching”. Also, where does the channel go? He’s 34, 2:25 seems out of reach at his current rate of progression. Are people signing up and watching if he continues to run 2:29-2:32?
Jeremy Miller catering / kissing up to the average 4/5 hour marathoner by suggesting they are more impressive than a 2:01 hour marathoner. Can’t make this stuff up.
People trolled on Seth for weird training but at least early Seth was honest in the shoedio; I think later SJD had some Floberg tendencies. But even later SJD never had the grift that a certain Chicagoan has. Just a bunch of "bull"...
What sucks is there are hints of some humanity at times and seriousness from our Windy City runner but then they quickly fade away.
As a Chicagoan, he’s not a Chicagoan. He’s a Park Ridgian.
Fair enough lol! I'll eat my hat; he went out in 1:14 high as he said, and ran a smart sub-2:30 race. Kudos to him.
I was half-tempted earlier this year, but it was not cheap. Curious. He also offers courses on photography, but those are expen$ive too.
Then I saw the video of him not completing a workout a few weeks later and he was very uneven with pacing, didn't even finish the rep on one of them, so I noped out.
People here might not like this but got to point it out… a 2:29 at Boston is probably equivalent to a 2:22 at London… making Floberg officially a better marathon runner than even SIRPOC. I’m a huge fan of NSM and Sirp but credit where credits due.
For all those suggesting Floberg start NSM and ask for coaching from SirPoc the other day? Well I hate to break it you but it actually might be James and the modifying Norwegian method crowd who need to be signing up to Mr Flo’s coaching services and embark on some good old FSM !!!
Now who is gonna start the FSM thread on let’s run?
Would be a fun experiment if an LRCer signed up for Floberg's coaching and another one visited the Wizard, and then checked back with us in a year or two. Just for S&G.
I think his performance today was commendable, but I also think he leverages a thinly-veiled, family man persona & some cinematography skills to grift people. Two things can be true at once.
biggest harp imo which flies under the radar is the ridiculous monthly fee he charges his ~60 fans for 'coaching'. he's blatantly ripping them off and pocketing high 5 figures off of this. its just crappy to do as he's not providing any real value for what he's charging and any serious runner would acknowledge this but floberg doesn't care since it's money in his account and he's oblivious enough to convince himself his non-personalized services are actually worth $2k/yr per individual since hes fostering that sweet sweet running community. but hey, thats capitalist america for ya.
the man grifts the running scene and really does overdramatize everything to the point of ridiculous cringe. he clearly has an audience who loves this kind of content though which continues to surprise me, but i guess i shouldn't be that dumbfounded at how simpleton many viewers who choose to fan over runfluencers would be. floberg also seems to force his way in to be buddy buddy with everyone in the running online space. its funny to see him commenting on everyone and everything when its just him trying to advertise himself and pretend he's friends with all the other cool kids. embarrassing when you zoom out and can see the big picture. he does come off as disengenuine if you can see through the scripted acting like the poster said - he overplays the family man persona when it really isn't all that impressive what he's doing (pretty easy to run and film videos full time with no other job requirement while your spouse watches your 4 children majority of the time)
with how hyped i bet flo is today, i wouldn't put it past him to think an OTQ is actually back on the table lol. you're only 14 minutes away now eric! lets get freaking fit and skip all those baseball games! we're all in for 2028. this guy's got the special sauce of narcisism + self delusion that one needs to do the unthinkable!
I was on reddit/advancedrunning (and there are fast runners too) but they seem to not mention him much at all. Just LRC. Maybe it's just this site that understands the grift.
If people are stupid enough to pay him for coaching, why is that his fault?
It’s not, but I’d argue charging (presumably) more novice runners ~$150/mo for cookie-cutter coaching is petty swindling, aka grifting. Not to get on a soapbox, but I don’t respect it and it’s not something I’d engage in even though I’ve had the opportunity to do so, albeit on a smaller scale.
The other coaching grift I've seen is Track Club Babe. Nice lady but $145 for a generic marathon plan that only tops out at 60 mpw? (there are 3 levels; the highest one tops out at 60). Might as well get Pfitz 18/55 in the AM book or modify it to 18/63, etc.
(For the record someone gave the plan to me for free).
