Just seen a great clip from the Spencer Matthews podcast, don't know who the guy is but he calls out the Russ Cook / Hugo Frys of the world as rubbish pros rather than top level amateurs and I couldn't agree more.
All these guys are full time runners and are likely paid more than most pros meaning they have the best support networks possible to be a runner and yet they still at best are hanging on to the very back of the pro field , most of them barely stand out from your average club hobby jogger

Not to be a shill, but there’s a world of difference in levels of achievement between Hugo Fry types (and say Charlie Sandison) and the Russ Cooks/Jonny Davies of the world.
Hugo’s Barca time objectively puts him in the UK top 15-20 for the half every year since records began. He’s objectively quick. Whether he’s doing it clean is another matter…
2:30 is on the cards. I'm so fit. HR was so low on my tready workouts all blocks. Just so stoked to finally hit that 2:30.
Kids are home with Sabriah getting those core memories locked in. At least there's no playoff game today!
Gonna take it out at 2:30 pace, which will feel super easy and then kick on second half. Hope I don't have GPS issues like Chitown. Coach said I would ould have gone 2:26 without that issue.

UK top 20 is still not good for a pro athlete.
UK very rarely competes on the global stage over half marathon/ marathon distance. Alex Yee was the only Brit in the top 100 marathon times last year. Like the guy said if they were an amateur running these times then that would be considered really good for an amateur but as a pro with full funding and a life/support network fully dedicated to training and performance they are not even mid pack professionals ...

Always good to hear a humble member of the landed gentry call people out for having the best support networks.

Go one more! So freaking fit. Let's do this?
Good luck! I believe in you (blowing up and claiming you were 2:25 levels of fit but it was tough conditions out there).
Go smash it, church clap your way right across that finish line!
No job, no career as he gave up on it to pursue being a wannabe influencer.
rents a bedsit with Hugo fry.
it amazes me how these lot get any traction. In 20 years all the following along with them will be on benefits or dead end jobs. What were you doing in your late 20s? Begging for likes and attention. Leave the begging to the homeless

Where does all this bizarre fantasizing about all these people ending up on the dole come from. He's a fully qualified accountant with 3-4 years experience at one of the big 4, when being an influencer stops being profitable or something he wants to do he'll probably just go back to being an accountant so I know this must make seethe with rage but he'll actually be absolutely fine.
I'm just observing that, based off his training, he looks to be in very good shape, it's not that deep.

I mean, the guy's only been running since lockdown, and has been a 'pro' - by your definition - for less than a year. He's made significant progress in that time, but to suggest he should already be up there with the likes of Alex Yee, an objectively generational talent since his teens, is... a take.

He’s also an absolute dreamboat to look at. He’s got the babes, the career and he’s good at running and it kills a load of the incels on this thread who have none of those things going for them
3 years at one of the big 4 (being on a grad scheme and intern doesn’t count)
Mate what are you on about I just observed, in a thread where people talk about running youtubers/instagrammers, that one of the popular UK instagrammers seems to be in shape to run well at London based off his recent training.
He might not be your cup of tea which is absolutely fair enough, but the level of vitriol you have is really something else. For what it's worth I don't even follow his account because I don't like short form content in general but he occasionally comes up on reels and to be fair to the guy he trains hard but sensibly and obviously is quite talented since he's ran sub 2:30 after 4-5 odd years of training.
Fantasizing about someone ending up on the dole because they post their running on social media is a bizarre thing to do. But, again, since you seem to be really preoccupied with this I'll just reiterate a few points which you clearly are missing:
>There is no real stigma in the corporate world to people posting on social media these days, certainly not for generic fittness/running content anyway. 10-15 years ago it would have got you pigenholed as being a bit odd but it's just a very normal thing to do now and it won't impact your employment prospects if you want to go back and work a 9-5 in accounting or whatever.
>Joining the big 4 for a few years to have them put you through your accountancy exams and then quitting once you've got qualified is what literally what the vast majority of gradudates do. It's not a job for life for most people. You get in, get qualified and get out and work somewhere with a better work life balance.

I hope you drank enough OJ, Eric
Floberg prediction: splits HM in 1:13:52, finishes in 2:32:55

Alex Yee is talented agreed but hes also a triathlete and has also only trained specifically for marathon distance for a year before he ran 2:06; and again for a pro marathon runner 2:06 is distinctly average compared to what the top guys are running.
Yee running that time was impressive for a Brit and even more impressive as a triathlete. Fry hasn't come within 10 minutes of that time and yet he gets lauded as this unbelievable pro who has cracked the art of the marathon by eating carbs and running long runs. Despite having been in full time marathon training for longer than Yee.
People trolled on Seth for weird training but at least early Seth was honest in the shoedio; I think later SJD had some Floberg tendencies. But even later SJD never had the grift that a certain Chicagoan has. Just a bunch of "bull"...
What sucks is there are hints of some humanity at times and seriousness from our Windy City runner but then they quickly fade away.
".. even later SJD never had the grift..."
You mean the guy that started a virtual race during/around COVID claiming he'd be donating a specific percentage to charity. Then, later on, removed all mentions of the charity, and deleted any comments on his videos relating to it?
I'd say that's up there with the lowest of the low, personally.
