During Russiagate, there were many examples of Russia getting caught on lower levels of the Trump administration. The big Russiagate bust was that no one found evidence of direct coordination between Trump and Russia. But that assumes that the Russians are dumb enough to try and directly coordinate with Trump. If they got caught, Trump would face removal. The key to Russian intelligence from the days of the KGB to the current FSB has always been plausible deniability. If Russia can get control over Trump's advisors, they do not need to have any control over Trump. Trump is an empty vessel and will do whatever his advisors tell him to do. Just look at how Trump has basically turned his administration over to Musk.
And the evidence so far with Trump's administration has been that Trump is doing everything the Russians have wanted the US to do for a very long time without getting any concessions at all from Russia. Trump has cut off aid to Ukraine. Trump has stopped US cyber operations against Russia (that one serves no US interest at all). Trump is undermining NATO and the EU. Trump is forcing Zelensky into making huge concessions ahead of talks with Russia. Trump has tried to block the EU and UK from negotiations over Ukraine. Trump all but got rid of USAID (Russia has long blamed USAID for everything from the initial collapse of the Russia economy after the fall of the USSR to the Maidan Revolution to the 2024 Georgia protests). Trump stopped intelligence sharing with Ukraine and has allies concerned about whether the Trump admin is passing stuff on to RU. Trump has pissed off Canada and Mexico with trade wars. And Trump regularly parrots Kremlin talking points on the Ukraine war.
If this all happened over the course of a year or two, it could be argued that it was a coincidence. But from the opening gun, Trump has delivered on a long Russian wish list even though his administration has some heretofore Russian hawks. If you sat Trump down in the middle of 2024 and asked him what he thought the Russians really wanted him to do, he would not have been able to list off a fraction of what he has done for the Russians so far in his administration. Thus, all of this cannot be coming from Trump. It must be coming from people inside the administration who are working in concert with the Russians.
