Robert Young fakes run across America

My guess on that day was that he ran the 59.74 miles, but also wanted to record a marathon time, so the 28.67 miles was a split within the longer run. Not sure what to make of the start/stop times though, or the fact that the marathon "split" is longer than a marathon...

Yes, you can draw a route on a map (similar to the old gmap-pedometer website) and then manually enter you time.

You can definitely do that with routes, as long as the other person has made it public. Not sure if you could do it with a full workout (times etc).

Yep, they calculate those values automatically from time/distance/body weight. Although I think you can also edit the values manually.

This one I'm not sure, I switched to a different logging site once I got a GPS watch. Anyone else done this?

I still think he's cheating, but I don't think the mapmyrun data adds much evidence.

I use map my run on my iPhone and it uses your height/weight to calculate calories and automatically does the splits. It reads out your elapsed time, split time, average pace at each mile point.

I found that Oct 11th info pretty amazing. Basically he all 24 hours of that day and did another marathon the next day.

I read the accessible amazon.co.uk parts of the opening of his book. His claims of running 4:07, 3:28, and 3:19 for his first 3 marathons in a 30-hour period of time are ludicrous. His detailed description of the alleged route for these as loops in Richmond Park does not match the data he posted in mapmyrun.com at all. And he claims in the book that he didn't need verification such as gps (which he looked into) to verify his attempt at a sequence of marathons. He claims that only two witnesses are needed for verification, and he chooses his GF/partner Joanna and a friend Eva. The problem, for example, is that for his very first marathon, he claims no one saw him except Eva but only at the beginning of his fourth loop in Richmond Park, but according to mapmyrun, he didn't run loops in Richmond Park for that marathon.

It would be interesting to read his whole book and compare his claims to the data posted in mapmyrun to see if it matched because the opening sections don't. I don't want to spend the £9.99 to support his lies. I imagine some library in the UK might have it in the fiction section.

This may have been discussed, but let me get this straight. Dude has no money, and likes to run. Instead of getting a job to support his family, he just keeps running and asks the world to chip in and support him. For any of his friends that are reading this thread I'd like to ask why the f**k I would ever give this idiot a penny.

A CAFE owner has completed seven marathons in seven days to raise money for a Bristol-based water charity.

Andy Persson, 47, who co-owns and runs Hooper House Cafe in Stokes Croft, ran 184 miles from the source of the River Thames near Kemble in Gloucestershire to the Thames Barrier in London.

He finished the gruelling task on Saturday afternoon after setting off on Sunday, August 26.

Mr Persson completed the final marathon – from Kew Bridge to the Thames Barrier – in three hours and 56 minutes. He said: "I seemed to get stronger each day and felt really good when I finished. I felt like turning around and doing it again.

Sorry, Andy. Sounds like a great series of runs for an experienced runner, but your friend Rob Young belittles you. He ran seven marathons in his first five days of marathoning! We should know. It's in his book!

Gun to my head: I'd say he's committing charity fraud, indeed. He's been caught in other lies and deception. He seems really desperate and perhaps sees this as a financial opportunity with all the funds flowing in, supposedly all for charity. He seems like an unstable individual who puts on a mask of kindness. But he's slowly being revealed. Of course his Facebook fans will stand by him no matter what. These people are blind to logic and critical thinking. His crew should be called out too, they are kniving collectively. Perhaps they thought it was innocent cheating at first, a little here and there despite all that running interspersed in between. But he is an unstable fraud in numerous ways.

Interesting data. His fastest miles since June 7 are 14 minutes per mile, with many in the 18-20 minute range.

Sounds like Mr. Young needs a boost of caffeine and sugar like he got in his alleged 373-mile, non-stop, non-sleep, record-breaking run.

Seriously. Everything this guy has done is questionable. There are exaggerations, distortions, lies, and falsifications on his website (PRs for 10K, half, and full), his wikipedia page in his own edits (cycling for Milram), his book (the claims about his first 10 marathons), and now his attempt to run across America.

You have nailed it exactly. Narcissism. The asking for hero worship, the anger at being questioned, the manipulating of trying to divert blame for questions to the people asking 'just being haters' when the questions are more than legitimate. The waxy stories about being an abused child, the lie after lie after lie of accomplishments, the trying to attract a legion of needy followers to defend the narcissist in their indefensible actions. It sure is fun to watch the lengths narcissism will go to, the levels of crazy are high.

Weird that the only people supporting RY are also long-term grifters and cheats, (Lisa Smith-Batchen who 'ran a badwater four times' with no gps proof, 'for charity' with no proof money went to charity.) Narcissism. On her recent transcon, Lisa got caught, I mean medical emergency. She needed that payday, needs this one too. Same sketchy charity she was going to run for, lots of links among these grifters.

Between crew chief Dustin, the folks at skins, some of the charities who have vague missions and vague accounting, his other also grifters and also cheats in the states trying to spin this, how do you think they plan to divide the charity money among their favorite charity which benefits mostly themselves?

Simple to put this to rest:

gps tracking with cadence of the entire run, something even a weekend runner has access to.

Video of him running even 10 miles at the pace he claimed until being caught to have effortlessly run day after day throughout this (because he's so exceptional of course as all narcissists are).

An accounting of every single dollar donated to each charity and a full audit of each of those charities
