Well, I'm back for my weekly-ish check-in on the insanity that is this thread. And I've been another one who has weighed in mostly to defend the Roches while acknowledging some of the silliness.
To wit: every accusation that "David lied!" has been debunked, including that David ever said he could run a sub-4 min mile or that he lied about his football background, or that he claimed he could run sub-28, etc etc. The time-stuff was aspirational, such as "I need to be in sub-4 shape." He also never "lied" about his treadmill workouts. He posted them and all kinds of nefarious motivations were attributed to them. He acknowledged that they probably didn't translate to outside (note to David: they definitely didn't), but the angry mob on here seems to want him to put a disclaimer on every Strava upload.
I've said repeatedly that David is delusional if he thinks he is ever going to be in sub-4 shape. No f-ing way does he have that in his wheelhouse. Nor sub-28, though again he never said that. Can he win Western States? It's not ridiculous on its face but I wouldn't see him as the favorite
I also think the "I love you" stuff is a bit much but whatever. There are worse things. I watched the latest video and I found his commentary to be getting super old but, again, whatever.
I also said that it sucks if people had bad experiences with them as an online coaches. I had the same with an online coach, i.e., no individualization. Caveat emptor. As pointed out, he's apparently not taking on new athletes and I don't see this as a hanging offense.
So literally nothing on this now 64-page thread has risen to the level of "liar" or "fraud" and I'm still waiting. Most every accusation is either untrue or wildly exaggerated. Let's not even start with the accusations of PED use, encouraging eating disorders, etc.
I'm not going to go back every post since I was last on here (last week), but I skimmed through:
David uploading to Strava sometimes from his watch and sometimes from his phone isn't proof of anything. I glanced and found some of the harder workouts were from his watch and some from his phone. Maybe there's a "nefarious" reason but it's hilarious how frenzied the response was as if it was a smoking gun in and of itself.
Got a good laugh from the guy who said David cheats on Zwift because he calculated that David input his weight at 128 lbs (I think it was?) but weighs 20 lbs more. If those were or are close to the right numbers, the accuser is delusional. No way does David weigh close to 150. 130-ish looks right. He's not tall and is rail thin. Megan was supposedly calculated at 100 or so. If that's true, (a) I'd also believe that's close when she's not 8 weeks post-partum, and (b) oh, by the way, don't be an a-hole about a woman who just gave birth and isn't exactly racing on Zwift.
I do have a theory on why David said he wants to be in sub-4 shape when he gets to the starting line, which, again, is ridiculous but doesn't make him a liar or a fraud. Watching the last hill-workout video and seeing how into Strava David is made me think that he believes GAP on Strava (grade adjusted pace) is a real thing. It's not, and it's infamously overly-generous to uphill running. But he has done some uphill stuff that is sub-4 GAP, and given his lack of track background I can't help but think that he might actually believe it translates. But I'm speculating and really shouldn't be given the context of this thread. :)
