Hell unfrozen. I would almost label this one "this week in journalistic stupidity" but...wait, that fits:
Why is Donald Trump making gains amongst college educated Republicans? Hmmm...I dunno. Maybe because they are *Republicans* and would rather die than vote for vote for a democratic candidate for president? No...that can't be it!
Then we get the usual argument that the economy is doing well, because it isn't as terrible as it was six months ago. That dog, as they say, won't hunt. George Will put it best: "All economic news is bad news " if you like Biden, you probably approve of his handling of the economy. If you don't...he's not getting your vote.
His job approval is hovering around 40% rn, and, while it's hard to find economic polling data, I did find this:
Nearly two-thirds of the county thinks we are on the "wrong track." I get that Trump is unlikable, detestable, even. But of you feel that way, bear in mind that there are about two people in this country who feel that way about Biden.
Lastly, Biden won election in 2024 large on the strength of white, college educated voters. Citation:
Biden won whites overall by 4 points, and white college educated by 3 points. Those people who voted for him in 2020 are going to have to consider his record during his term. The progressives among them are going to judge him for his view on Palestinian human rights and what he does at the border. I think he has bigger problems than Trump, who is getting an awful lot of free press over scandals meant to unravel his campaign.
But...he's still got time and he definitely still has his cheerleaders. Let's see what he's got.
